K&N Filters sponsored UTV Racer Cody Rahders won the Lucas Oil Regional Series Round 6 Production 1000 class & took over the points lead heading into the final round of 2015. Cody Rahders also took this opportunity to debut his 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo and race it to a 2nd place in the Unlimited UTV class.

Cody Rahders qualified second in the Production 1000 class behind the wheel of his K&N powered Polaris RZR. With the inverted start he sat on the pole, immediately jumping out front to lead laps one through ten. On lap eleven the 2nd place car came into turn 4 hot getting under Cody and taking over the lead. This was short lived as Cody used the exact same move in turn 4 the following lap to retake the lead and the win.

On track again for the Unlimited UTV class Cody Rahders qualified third and lined up in the 2nd row in his brand new 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo. When the green flag waived, Cody immediately pulled into 2nd and took the lead by lap three. Cody Rahders' time out front was short lived when he began to have possible fuel issues. By lap 4 Cody began to slow and was passed by 1st through 4th place. Fortunately, the car recovered and Cody was able to move back up to 2nd where he would finish out the race.

After the Unlimited UTV race Cody Rahders said, “Except for a Sparks Racing exhaust pipe and a K&N air filter this car is bone stock, I didn’t even take out the passenger seat. The motor is fast and pulls super hard but the suspension is setup for play in the desert, not short course racing. I wanted to see if I could win with it. Instead of topping off the fuel we ran a half tank and I think it was pulling air into the fuel system through the 'un-rhythm' section. I changed my driving style to make up for it and finished it out in 2nd place. We learned a lot, if we took the time to develop a short course setup nothing would be able to touch the (2016 Polaris RZR XP) Turbo.”

K&N designers chose to retain the use of the 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro 3.6L V6 stock air box when designing the 57-3075 K&N performance air intake system. The 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro’s standard 3.6L V6 is a highly sophisticated engine, and retaining the use of the stock air filter box has several engineering benefits. Retaining the stock air box allowed K&N Intakes designers to increase performance while keeping inlet air temperatures, and air / fuel ratios within factory specifications. Utilizing the stock air box maintains the use of the factory cold air inlet near the front wheel, without exposing the air filter to the elements. However, the best part about retaining the stock air filter box of 2010-2014 Chevy Camaro 3.6L V6 models is that K&N Intake designers were able to retain all factory connections, including stock emissions control equipment, to create a 50-state street legal air intake system.

Testing revealed that the factory maze of air intake ducting is a source of restriction in the stock Chevy Camaro air induction system. Included in the K&N air intake system for 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro 3.6L V6 models is a free-flowing roto-molded HDPE air intake tube which helps to overcome the restriction found in the stock air ducting. Restriction isn’t the only trouble with the stock air intake as it also creates turbulence in the incoming air. The molded HDPE intake tube used in 57-3075 has a smooth and consistent internal circumference for reduced airflow turbulence. Reducing restriction and straightening airflow allows the Fifth Gen Camaro’s standard 3.6-liter V6 engine to breathe easier.

To complement the new 2010-2014 Chevy Camaro 3.6L K&N air intake tube, a new K&N High-Flow replacement air filter, designed to reduce restriction over typical paper air filters, is included with 57-3075. NASCAR® Chairman and CEO Brian France tasked the team at the NASCAR® Research and Development Center in Concord, North Carolina, with developing a means to shorten the delay caused by rain. The reasons were many, but at the top of the list was the goal of reducing wait times before racing resumes following a downpour for fans in the grandstands or watching on television.

Phase 1 of NASCAR® Chairman and CEO Brian France’s vision was to introduce the Air Titan™ track drying system during Speedweek at Daytona International Speedway. This innovative technology, steeped in science and created by the NASCAR® R&D Center, will reduce track drying time, improve the racing product and enhance the fan experience.

With the ultimate goal of reducing track-drying time by up to 80%, the NASCAR® R&D team took an advanced scientific approach during the production of the Air Titan™. Using compressed air, the Air Titan™ efficiently and reliably pushes water off of the racing surface and onto the apron where vacuum trucks will remove the remainder of the moisture. Jet dryers will follow each Air Titan™, drying any excess water that remains on the racing surface.

As part of the Air Titan™ development process, NASCAR® incorporated the high-flow air filter technology found in K&N performance air filters. K&N and NASCAR® have fully equipped the Air Titan™ track drying system with K&N filters, K&N oil filters, and K&N breather filters. During testing the NASCAR® R&D team noted several advantages to using K&N filters, which include reduced maintenance times, cleaner running engines, and the ability to reuse the K&N air filters. NASCAR® R&D found that switching to K&N air filters allowed maintenance crews to remove the filter with the blower until still in the vehicle. The factory style filter on the blower required the entire unit to be removed just to change the filter. Additionally, oil samples have proven that using K&N air filters, and K&N oil filters, have reduced the amount of particles entering the engine, which in turn will prolong the life of the engine and blower unit.

For the immediate future, jet dryers and vacuum trucks will continue to be used during track-drying efforts. Over time, the innovations of the Air Titan™ will lessen the carbon footprint of track drying, decreasing both emissions and noise pollution. The next evolution in the innovative technology will be to optimize the power source.

Base model 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ram Pickup, formerly known as the Dodge Ram, Heavy Duty 2500 or 3500 trucks are equipped with a standard 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. When compared to the 6.7L Cummins Diesel engine, the 6.4 Hemi makes more horsepower but falls short in terms of torque. Not many gasoline engines can live up to the torque of a massive turbo diesel engine.
