In 7 rounds, Tommy Phillips never trailed on the line; taking the reaction time advantage in every round except the quarterfinal, where he and Ryen Lamb left with identical times

The Super Comp victory at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway marked the 31st national event triumph in Phillips’s illustrious career

K&N supported NHRA racer Tommy Phillips drove his CBS ArcSafe/K&N Filters/Orteq Energy Technologies/Wood Racing dragster to victory in Super Comp at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The victory marked the 31st national event triumph in Phillips’s illustrious career. The win also extended one of the most impressive streaks in NHRA Lucas Oil competition, as 2015 marks the tenth consecutive season in which Phillips has earned at least one NHRA national event crown.

“It feels good to start off on a high note,” Phillips expressed, as the Las Vegas event was the first 2015 NHRA outing for his team. “Our equipment is second to none; and all of our cars have been flawless. I’ve said, only half-joking, for several years that the weak link on this team is behind the wheel. I’m just glad that I was able to hold up my end of the bargain this time around.”

In seven elimination rounds, Tommy Phillips never trailed on the starting line; taking the reaction time advantage in every round except the quarterfinal, where he and Ryen Lamb left with identical .014 reaction times. His path to victory went through Greg Hicks, recent Division 7 winner Bobby Mirizio, Keith Winters, Neil Markuson, Lamb, Dave Meziere and final round opponent Ryan Cook. Cook, who was appearing in his first ever national event, wheeled his dragster all the way to the final and made a very representative lap. But Phillips saved his best run for last, posting a stellar .004 reaction time, and crossing the finish line in his CBS ArcSafe/K&N Filters/Orteq Energy Technologies/Wood Racing dragster first with a 9.060 elapsed time.

“Anytime we get a chance to celebrate victory on the national stage, it’s special,” emphasized Phillips. “But this win was even better than most. Cody and Meghan Ortowski of Orteq Energy Technologies, one of our major team partners were on hand for the event, as were Buddy and Karen Wood. We’re extremely fortunate to be surrounded by fantastic people who support our team. And I just can’t say enough about Jay and Linda Thornburg. Our racing program has become so much more than a weekend job, and they’re with me 100% every step of the way.”

The AMA ATV Motocross Championship is the nation's premier amateur and professional ATV motocross series, hosted at top motocross facilities nationwide. The 10-round series features the Nation's best racers, teams and sponsors, and is America's largest and longest-running ATV national motocross program. Competing in the AMA ATV Motocross Championship is K&N sponsored ATV Motocross racer Chad Wienen who cemented his status as the red plate holder at the Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, (ATVMX) stop at Sunset Ridge MX. Chad Wienen enjoyed a solid afternoon at the front of the field aboard his K&N equipped Yamaha YFZ450, parlaying 1-2 moto finishes on the way to his third AMA Pro ATV win of the season and claiming a big triumph in front of his hometown crowd.

The day began with a familiar trend as Joel Hetrick emerged with the ATVRiders.com Fastest Qualifier Award. Joel Hetrick converted his first gate pick into the SSi Decals Holeshot Award for the opening AMA Pro ATV moto, with K&N sponsored Chad Wienen in tow. Wienen applied the pressure on Hetrick early and was able to make the pass for the lead on the opening lap. The early pass did nothing to deter Hetrick's confidence as he stuck to Wienen's rear fender for the entire moto.

On Lap 9 Joel Hetrick closed down the deficit to mere bike lengths and made a run for the win in the late stages of the moto. However, while attempting to pass Wienen, Joel Hetrick high-sided and lost valuable ground. Hetrick kept the bike going but Chad Wienen would go on to lead all 11 laps of the moto and put himself in the drivers' seat for the overall win aboard his K&N filters equipped Yamaha ATV.

Thomas Brown got the upper hand in Moto 2, leading the AMA Pro ATV field to the line to claim the SSi Decals Holeshot Award in front of K&N’s Chad Wienen. With a clear track ahead of him, Brown was able to establish a torrid pace out front and sprint to a multiple second lead on the opening lap. That lead would grow consistently for over half of the moto, reaching double digits. With Brown pulling away, Chad Wienen settled into second, knowing the overall would be his with a runner-up finish.

K&N racer Chad Wienen's 1-2 scores gave him the edge over Thomas Brown's 3-1 effort to secure his third overall win of the season. Hetrick rounded out the overall podium in third (2-3), followed by Haagsma Jr. in fourth (5-4) and Rastrelli fifth (7-5). Chad Wienen's win moved him into a 15-point lead over Hetrick in the AMA Pro ATV championship standings with four rounds remaining on the schedule.

The 2015 Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship will continue with Round 7 from the legendary Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minnesota, on June 27.

The Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc is the only exclusively female off-road rally in the world. Created in 1990, this ground-breaking event brings women between the ages of 18 and 65 together from more than 30 different countries in the Moroccan desert. Since its inception, the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles has been creating a new vision of automobile competition: no speed and no GPS, just old fashioned navigation, completely off-road. The Gazelle Rally is a return to the roots of Adventure. The women who take part in this rally, known as Gazelles, are of all ages, social backgrounds, nationalities and levels of off-road experience. Whether in a 4x4, Crossover, Quad, truck or motorcycle, they all come to take part in a unique competition. Instead of time or speed determining the winner of the Gazelle Rally, the women are charged with navigating from beginning to end in the shortest accumulated distance.

Team # 180, one of several women only teams representing the United States, consisted of Nicole Pitell-Vaughn and Jessi Combs in the K&N Filters equipped Total Chaos Fabrication Toyota Tacoma. Both women have a strong background in off-road racing. Nicole, along with her husband, owns Total Chaos Fabrication in Corona, California. Jessi is no stranger behind the wheel of off-road trucks, having raced the infamous King of the Hammers multiple times, but it was decided that Nicole would drive while Jessi navigated during the 2015 Gazelle Rally.

2015 marked Nicole and Jessi’s first attempt at the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc and Team #180 in the K&N Filters equipped Total Chaos Fabrication Toyota Tacoma passed with flying colors. “We started off great, and experienced a really challenging first few days of getting the hang of the competition. We were sitting in 24th place at one point,” said Pitell-Vaughn. Never the less, Nicole and Jessi successfully completed the 9 day Rallye Aiicha des Gazelles, capturing every flag on every stage and logging the shortest distance against all the other first time competitors. The K&N supported team’s strategic moves and challenging decisions paid off earning them the highest placing finisher of all the American teams entered in the 2015 rally and a 10th place finish overall. “We made some great strategic decisions in the dunes where our Tacoma worked flawlessly. That gave us an edge over some of the other teams. We managed to climb in the rankings the following days and sat 10th overall on day 8. We maintained the position on the final day with less than a 2 km cushion. What an amazing experience,” Nicole Pitell-Vaughan stated.

Jessi Combs added, “Crazy to think that all the elements of a full functioning race team; communication, equipment, strategy, preparation, and assertiveness are magnified tenfold in a race where you barely break 50 mph over nine days of racing. Missing anyone of those components could lead to ultimate breakdown…mechanically, emotionally, navigationally, spiritually…and in the middle of the Moroccan Sahara. We are grateful for our final standings…it took mass amounts of effort from all our supporters and more determination than I could have ever estimated.”
