With Additional Categories, K&N Engineering Now Posts More Than $317,500 in NHRA Contingency

RIVERSIDE, CA - With the rising costs of many forms of racing, contingency awards are often a necessity for competitive racers.

K&N recently announced its 2005 NHRA contingency program and a new posting for the use of K&N Performance Air Intake Systems. The Program now boasts in excess of $317,500 in contingency funds available to racers who post top two finishes while using K&N products and display appropriate K&N decals. Part of K&N's 2005 program includes new payouts for Pro Stock Motorcycle racers running K&N Performance Gold Oil Filters. In addition to Air and Oil Filters, contingency awards have been added for Sportsman Class racers and Pro Stock racers who use K&N Performance Air Intake Systems on their racecar or support vehicle and display K&N Intake System decals on their racecar at NHRA National and Divisional Events.

K&N posts at National and Divisional Events for the following classes: Stock, Super Stock, Super Gas, Super Street, Comp, Super Comp, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. K&N Engineering is the Official Air Filter, Oil Filter and Air Intake System for the NHRA Sport Compact Racing Series and posts contingency payouts for all of the sport compact series classes.

"Having raced in NHRA Sportsman competition for years I know how much contingency can help a racer's budget," commented Steve Williams, K&N's Executive Vice President of R&D. Williams races in NHRA Super Comp and Super Gas competition and has two National Event wins to his list of credits. "From a company perspective, K&N has supported racers from day one. Our best products have been made better from what we've learned at the track. From a marketing aspect, contingency is an important component of K&N's overall program. As an employee for K&N and as a racer I'm proud that we are able to offer such a high level of support - not just for the pro categories, most of our payouts go to sportsman racers."

Racers wishing to claim all three K&N contingency payouts must be running K&N Air Filters and Performance Gold Oil Filters on their race vehicle; and a K&N Performance Air Intake System on their racecar or support/tow vehicle. Appropriate K&N decal(s) must be displayed on both sides of the race vehicle during competition to be eligible for the program (contingency payouts are subject to verification and require specific decals for each category). Racers using K&N Intake Systems with supplied K&N Air Filter and both decals qualify for both payouts. Approved K&N contingency decals are available at the K&N product trailer, which can be found on the midway at most NHRA National events or by calling K&N's Customer Service Department at 1-800-858-3333.

K&N Gets XStream® with new Filter for 2003-2008 Honda CRF 450R and 2004-2009 CRF 250R

RIVERSIDE, CA, -- K&N Engineering's New XStream® Air Flow Top, two piece High-Flow Air Filter design for the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Honda CRF 450R and 2004 to 2009 CRF 250R (part number HA-4503XD) is already all the rage for Off-Roaders and Motocrossers alike. The innovative, patent-pending two-piece filter makes installation, changing and cleaning your filter a breeze.

K&N invented the pleated cotton filter more than 35 years ago for the powersports market. Since then the technology has been adapted to fit nearly every vehicle on the road. Designed to increase airflow, K&N Filters offer more surface area, increased filtration, and optimum air flow when compared to typically disposable replacement filters, K&N Filters allow for two to three times the filtration area of a foam filter -- meaning much longer service intervals (more riding, less cleaning).

With the current rage in 4 stroke technology, the K&N Filters are becoming increasingly popular with enthusiasts and racers who demand the best for their ride. Four strokes thrive on increased airflow and respond exceptionally well to the improved airflow K&N Filters provide (NOTE: because of the increase in Air-Flow, you may need to re-jet your bike). The Four layers of woven cotton media allows for increased filtration over typical stock two layer foam filters. Combining these elements with our built-in, protective backfire screen, the K&N offers optimum airflow for your 4-stroke motorcycle as well as your 2-stroke motorcycle.

Installation of the K&N XStream Filter is easy. With the top removed, you can easily press the sides together to slide it in between your frame rails and install it into the air-box without the oily mess associated with many other air filters. K&N ensures a perfect seal with its double beaded seal on the base. For optimum seal, K&N recommends a bead of grease around the base and the XStream® Top.

Cleaning is a simple process and K&N offers a Recharger® Kit (sold separately) with everything needed to clean and re-oil your filter numerous times.

Make Stop in Riverside at K&N Filters Headquarters
as Part of IndyCar® Series Green Flag Tour

RIVERSIDE, CA (2/24/2005) - As part of a cross country tour in preparation for the start of the 2005 season, the IndyCar® Racing Series Green Flag Tour made a stop Thursday afternoon at the world headquarters for K&N Engineering. Located in Riverside, California, K&N manufactures air filters and intake kits for most vehicles and for the past few years has been the only filter used in the IndyCar® Racing Series. K&N was recently named The Official Air Filter Used by the IndyCar® Series.

"Every IndyCar® Series team relies on K&N Filters to keep dirt and debris from damaging the engines on these impressive racecars. With an engine that costs roughly $125,000 you want the protection of a great filter and K&N provides that … they were an obvious choice for a stop on our tour," noted John Stewart, IndyCar® Series Senior Director of Sales & Business Development.

A bright yellow Chevrolet SSR Pace Truck arrived with K&N CEO Steve Rogers and Chief Administrative Officer, Melody Van Aken at the wheel while a helicopter carrying IndyCar® Series driver, Dario Franchitti, his team owner, Michael Andretti and ABC Sports Announcer, Jack Arute landed across the street at Johnson Machinery. The group made a brief tour of K&N's 280,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, and then took time to meet with K&N employees before departing to Los Angeles for the continuation of the Green Flag Tour.

"We were very excited to have the IndyCar® Series Green Flag Tour stop here at K&N. Our employees take great pride in the products we make here and this was an awesome opportunity for them to meet the people who race with K&N filters," commented K&N CEO Steve Rogers.

The IRL IndyCar® Series opens its 10th season of competition with the Toyota Indy 300 at 2 p.m. (EST) on March 6, 2005 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. K&N-Supported Team Zip-Ty Goes Two for Two

Team Zip-Ty Reports on their two recent victories February 5th was the opening round of the AMA District 37 Big 6 Series. The series always draws a very large field of racers and spectators - this year's race, held in Taft, California was no exception. The Pro Team Race (with a large payback) gated over 40 Teams. Nathan Woods started for the team, and at the end of his 12 minute loop brought the bike in for Ty in 5th place. Ty left the pits and quickly started working his magic on the field. Nathan got back on the bike in a close 4th and once again rode a strong loop. On Ty's second loop he passed 3rd and 2nd places and pitted the bike on the heels of the Kurt Caselli's KTM. Nathan remained close, giving the bike back to Ty and allowing him to move the Team into the lead. At the end of the 90 minute race it was the Zip-Ty Racing Team in front and on top of the podium.

One week later, February 12th and 13th, was Round 2 of the WORCS series, held in Mesquite, Nevada. With close to 1000 entries, it was a great weekend for racing (other than a little rain from Mother Nature). In the Pro Main event on Sunday Ty Davis and Nathan Woods both Gated in the top 10 (Nathan - 4th and TY - 9th). And, by the end of the third lap it was Ty and Nathan leading the way. The two teammates rode strongly together, consistently pulling away from the field. Offroad racing is an exciting sport because the race is never over until it's over; and so it was on this day, that at about the 75 minute mark of the race Ty hit a large branch with his front caliper, rendering his front binders useless. Ty pitted, but it was decided that to repair the problem would take more time than was needed, so he rode the rest of the race with virtually "NO" front brake. At the end of the race it was Zip-Ty Racing's Nathan Woods on top of the podium, and Ty hanging on for a well-deserved 5th overall.

In the near future things don't readily slow down for the Team - in two weeks we are racing the Adalanto Grands Prix in California, and Round 3 of the WORCS series in Texas.
