Jake Swanson of Anaheim, California has waited a long time for one race. The Orange County teen will drive his Honda Powered Stealth Midget Hanford Speedway for the first time in the USAC Western States Dirt Midget 2009 Series.

USAC Midget Racing can be a stepping stone for young racing talent. The diversity of the tracks require quick reflexes and scouts take a look at the upcoming drivers.
Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Parnelli Jones and Al Unser all made their way up the USAC Midget ranks. In 2009, the USAC Midget Car Series is in its 54th year of operation.
Swanson started racing Quarter Midgets in 2001 and won the Region 11 Quarter Midget Class Champion Rookie Year. In 2003 and 2004 Swanson won the Mopar Twin 25 Quarter Midget Race at Irwindale Speedway in California.
In 2006, Swanson finished 2nd overall in the World Formula Class in the Quarter Midget Monza Series. “I’ve had a lot of really cool things happen like winning the Twin 25 Quarter Midget two years in a row and setting the Quarter Midget World Record,” he said. “This could have never happened without the help and support from our sponsors. K&N is a great partner with Swanson Motorsports. I’ve never used anything but K&N air filters. They work great and keep the track debris out of our engines.”

K&N has released a composite custom racing assembly product number 100-8578 for sprint car applications. It is an air filtration solution for injector stacks that is large enough to flow enough air and mounts securely to prevent damage during a race.

The 63-1123 air intake system replaces the stock airbox and intake track with a complete rotomolded intake tube, a powder coated aluminum airbox and an oversized K&N high-flow air filter

RU-4960XD. The K&N air filter is washable and reusable and provides excellent filtration. It is also pre-oiled and ready for installation.
The powder coated black heat shield assembly helps prevent rust and corrosion and isolates the K&N air filter from the engine compartment. This way the K&N air filter receives a consistent flow of fresh air.
There is also a K&N supplied remote mounted crankcase breather which helps keep the air filter cleaner and helps
to dissipate the extra heat and oils which generate from crankcase pressure.

Del Rougeux of Frenchville, Pennsylvania raced in the Dirt Car Modified Series at his hometown track, Lernerville Speedway.

The weekend started out with a chance of rain at his hometown track but it stayed away. That was the first good news of the night. The second good news was Rougeux managed to start 5th in the 2nd heat race. “There was a lot of lapped traffic and that held me up a little,” he said. “I managed to move into 3rd place with only two laps to go. That locked me into the lottery draw for the feature.”

Not only did Rougeux make it to the feature, he started on the outside pole position. “I took the lead from the green flag,” he said. “I was challenged by Dave Murdick for two laps and then I moved to the point position and never let go of the lead in 25 laps.” The third great news of the night was Rougeux made it to first place and ended up in the Winner’s Circle.
Team Rouguex races on tracks that consist of light powdered dust. “Our K&N air and oil filters protect our engines from that powdered dust and are just marvelous,” he said. “We get excellent filtration and additional horsepower.”
During the race there were several cautions, but Rouguex’s car was perfect on every restart.
“We’re trying to pick up our racing pace and move up in the Dirt Car Modified Series,” said Rougeux. “We’re trying different circuits which include 35 lap races.”
Team Rougeux will be back at Lernerville Speedway this weekend and then off to Canadaigua Speedway in New York for a 35 lap feature event.
Rich Tobias, of Speedway Entertainment, has made it his goal to offer affordable racing technology that really gets results. Tobias created the Slingshots racing division in an effort to show that affordable racing is competitive and exciting. Racing has been in the Tobias family since the mid 1950's. Rich Tobias' Uncle Lawrence was the original Toby Tobias, and then his father Dick Tobias took on the nickname and made it nationally known. "When Tobias Speed Equipment began building race cars in the Lebanon, Pennsylvania shop, it was apparent that this was what I wanted to do, both as a fabricator and a driver," says Rich.
Slingshots are a 39 horsepower vehicle powered by a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine capable of speeds near 100 MPH.
Speedway Entertainment is currently the home to the fastest growing class of race cars in the United States today. It has been ten years since the launch of the "Slingshot by Tobias" class and counts have grown to over 400 cars being raced in 17 states. "The SpeedSTR's were created to give another stepping stone for Slingshot drivers and in our 2008 Inaugural Season, we were able to demonstrate that affordable racing does have a place on the local racing scene," says Rich. The Slingshots are a 39 horsepower vehicle powered by a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine capable of speeds near 100 MPH. They are designed to look like the dirt track modifieds that are popular in the northeast. The SpeedSTR's are powered by a Dodge Neon engine and have 250 horsepower propelling the 1,100 pound open wheel cars around the speedways. "The flip wing on the SpeedSTR gives some added stability but both classes rely on chassis setups and driver talent, says Rich. "Slingshots and SpeedSTR's are both spec classes and can be raced on asphalt and dirt surfaces with minimum changes."
Currently, the Slingshots have no age boundaries with drivers from ages 6 to 81 strapping into them from coast to coast.
"Knowing that K&N Air Filters are installed on the Slingshots and SpeedSTR's gives me the satisfaction that all engine components will be protected to the fullest extent, says Rich. Performance is of the utmost importance with the lower horsepower race cars where every advantage can make the difference between winning and losing. "The fuel injection system used on the SpeedSTR's can be finicky and with four stacks needing protection, K&N has shown that their design and performance have exceeded our expectations.
Currently, Speedway Entertainment is looking to expand their SpeedSTR horizons. "Ray Evernham Motorsports, Canada based RevStar, and Doug Herbert Performance are all becoming more involved, getting the word out about the affordability of the SpeedSTR and the fact that it is becoming an excellent alternative to big car spending while getting the same results for a race team," says Rich. The Briggs & Stratton National Championship Tour for the Slingshots has grown to include speedways in Florida and Minnesota. RevStar is now making them available to Canadian racers with a tour scheduled for 2010.
Speedway Entertainment started out as a company building full caged indoor karts. With the advent of micro-sprints and the success of go-karting, Rich Tobias developed the Slingshot in 1999 to give drivers of all ages a chance to not only be race fans, but race drivers. Currently, the Slingshots have no age boundaries with drivers from ages 6 to 81 strapping into them from coast to coast. The SpeedSTR's found a new surface to race on with the advent of the Ice Racing League in Montreal. Studded tires are a must as the SpeedSTR's circle 3/8th mile ice tracks in full competition with temperatures dropping as low as 15 below zero.
Both classes are still growing and both the SpeedSTR's and Slingshots do not leave the Speedway Entertainment shops without anything but K&N Air Filters serving as protection for all racing surfaces.
