Phil Burkart will bring his “Madman Murray” Monte Carlo to one of the most
prestigious drag races on the planet, the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals. Each Labor
Day weekend NHRA racers descend on O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. The
fabled ORP quarter mile is regarded by many as one of the smoothest on the
circuit. It is a staging ground for some of the seasons most sought after
championships.
Burkart and his Murray’s crew earned their way to a second-round finish at the
O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals in Memphis. That steamy and hot event was followed
by two days of testing on the same Indy track they will be competing on this
weekend.

“Our car was coming around a bit in Memphis, under just about the worst
possible conditions,” said Burkart. “We got a big round win there, beating a car
that qualified better than we did. We raced Eric Medlen heads-up in round two
but just got beat by a bit. With that race ending on Monday, it was a mad dash
to get up here to Indy to test for two days. We arrived here Monday night,
worked on the car for half the day Tuesday, and spent a day-and-a-half making as
many runs as we could.”

As Burkart begins the four day marathon he and his team are keeping tabs on

win what we deserve to win. The points will come. We’re not in the championship
hunt now, and the best thing for us is to focus on what we’re doing and where
we’re going.”

This year Burkart started the season with two semi-finals, three second-round
finishes and one first round defeat at the first six races. Three more round
wins over the next 11 races lead the team into Indy.
“We’re going to take on every round by racing to win, instead of racing not to
lose,” said Burkart. “There’s a big difference in those two approaches, racing
to win means taking some chances and being aggressive without being afraid to
make a mistake. It’s our time to be aggressive right now, and that is what we
are going to do. We have one last race with the Murray’s car, and we’re going to
take that big Madman for a twirl around the dance floor.”

World of Outlaws racer Jeremy Campbell made his first trip to the Burlington
Washington’s Skagit Speedway over the weekend. Campbell was able to bring home a
top ten finish after a tough run.

On Friday, Campbell struggled and finished 15th in the preliminary
feature. On Saturday afternoon the Jeremy Campbell Motorsports crew took part in
the Snap-On Pit Crew Challenge and finished fourth in round two of the
three-round competition.
Campbell improved his qualifying run on Saturday night and won his heat with a
full straight away lead over second place. During the feature he battled his way
from the rear of the field into tenth place.

The World of Outlaws (WoO) season continues to unfold with Donny Schatz and his
ParkerStore No.15 J&J with Shaver power. Schatz leads the WoO series in several
categories including the point standings, victories and second place finishes.
The Fargo, North Dakota racer claimed Friday’s preliminary feature and finished
second in Saturday’s $25,000-to-win finale at Skagit Speedway. The results
helped continue the team’s assault on the 2006 crown.

“On Friday night, Schatz earned the pole position and led the final 29
laps of the 30-lap race. That finish locked the ParkerStore No.15 into
Saturday’s Dash event, which set the first five rows of Saturday’s feature
event. Schatz took victory in the Dash event and led 24 cars to the green flag
for the feature event.
Schatz battled Craig Dollansky for the second position during most of the race
and made a final lap pass of Dollansky to score his 14th second place finish of
the season. Over nine races this season, Schatz has followed up a runner-up
finish with a victory in the next feature event.
“We had a good weekend, but we would have liked to win both nights,” said
Schatz. “The big picture looks good, but we honesty just worry about the next
race. We’re disappointed things didn’t go a little differently in the feature
Saturday, but it will keep all of us focused on getting back to victory lane at
the next race Wednesday night.”

Schatz will have a one-night program at Southern Oregon Speedway near
Medford, Oregon. He has raced this track three times in his career. “We always
enjoy this swing racing in Washington and Oregon before heading to Calistoga,”
Schatz said. “The stress level of everyone seems to come down a little bit and
we can get back to racing and having some fun.”
Schatz won the Harvest Classic Finale at Calistoga Speedway in 2005. He has a
series best 14 victories (12 “A” feature and two preliminary). “We use K&N

Cold Air Intake for Volkswagen Polo
K&N Engineering has released a new 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-9750TS)
for the 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001 Volkswagen Polo 1.6 L4. K&N dynamometer
tests show a 12 horsepower gain @ 7800 RPM for this intake. "This is a gain of
more than 10 percent over stock," said K&N Project Designer Joost Adriaans. "We
are satisfied with the results."
This 69-Series Typhoon Air Intake (69-9750TS)
is a complete Cold Air Intake system. The K&N Filter (RC-9630)
is positioned close to the front wheel. "The Intake Kit can be converted to a
Short Ram configuration by not using the 2nd tube and placing the filter on the
1st tube," said Adriaans. "This can be done during severe weather conditions.
The farther the filter is away from the engine (to a certain extent), the cooler
the intake air is. Cooler air is denser than hot air so more air can enter the
engine resulting in better performance."
There were a few challenges during the development of
69-9750TS. "We found that the positioning of the hoses of the cooling system
were not consistent on various donor cars," said Adriaans. "As a result we
needed more cars to confirm our changes throughout development."

said Adriaans. "It matches nicely with most vehicle colors."
The Kia Rio received a complete redesign in 2006. The all new engine features
