K&N Air Intake System Adds More Horsepower to Polaris XP RZR Turbo EPS UTVs

The K&N Intake System replaces the restrictive factory air intake in 2016 Polaris RZR Turbo mode

The K&N air intake system replaces the stock filter and housing for improved performance

Introduced for the 2016 model year, the 144 horsepower Polaris ProStar Turbo engine was the most powerful side-by-side engine available from the factory on a stock vehicle at the time. The DOHC engine included a number of updates in order to handle the additional power that the turbocharger generated: upgrades to the four stroke motor included forged pistons, high strength connecting rods, sodium filled exhaust valves, and a revised oil distribution system, to name a few. Knock detection and boost control was incorporated into the electronic engine management system. A high flow return style fuel system assures that the engine delivers maximum power at all times, regardless of altitude or ambient temperature.

And performance it has in spades. The 925 cc turbo engine propelled the RZR XP Turbo EPS from 0-60 in just 5.89 seconds. That’s as fast as a 2016 BMW 330e.

While the RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS currently have a 13 horsepower advantage on their nearest competitor, you can pretty much expect a power battle to ensue. In fact, Polaris already increased the output of the 2017 ProStar Turbo to 168 horsepower. So why leave yourself at the mercy of a stock engine rating when a K&N performance cold air intake can add over four horsepower simply by installing a bolt on kit?

The K&N air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning, depending on conditions

The K&N air intake system is fitted with an oversized conical filter that can be washed and reused

The issue that’s a common feature among all RZR models through the years is the use of a disposable pleated paper air filter fitted to the OEM air filter box. While a disposable paper air filter is efficient at trapping dirt, they have limitations when it comes to performance and lifetime cost.

To remove this limitation, K&N developed a line of Aircharger performance air intake systems specifically for select RZR models to increase power and torque, and reduce maintenance costs. These air intake systems are an easy to install, bolt-on upgrade which replaces the restrictive original equipment air box and filter.

K&N's 63-1136 for the Polaris Ranger RZR XP Turbo EPS and RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS air intake system features a free-flowing aluminum air intake tube and oversized RU-5064 conical air filter. The intake system also features a custom air box designed to protect the air filter from the elements. This air intake is relatively easy to install usually in 90 minutes or less. The tools needed are a ratchet set, a few wrenches, and flat blade screwdriver.

DryCharger will also stop small dirt particles, yet adds little restriction to the incoming airflow

Made of a pre-treated material DryCharger helps keep splashes of water or mud out of your filter

And while initially a little more expensive than the OEM disposable paper filters, the RU-5064 conical K&N air filters are washable, reusable, and designed to dramatically reduce restriction while offering excellent protection from harmful dirt and contaminants and saving money in the long run. The K&N air filter can be used for up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed depending on driving conditions.

When using in extra dusty or wet conditions, K&N recommends the installation of an RU-5064DK Drycharger air filter wrap. K&N DryChargers are silicone treated, polyester wraps that are made to cover K&N air filters for added peace of mind. The fabric contains uniform micron sized openings that allow high air flow. Yet, due to the DryCharger's silicone treated polyester properties, the amount of dust or water that reaches the air filter is limited.

To clean the filter, you can use a K&N Recharger Kit, like the 99-5000, which will restore air flow efficiency and will bring your K&N oiled cotton air filter back to a like new condition. The included spray bottle of K&N Power Kleen works to dissolve the dirt build up and old filter oil, then it can be washed away with water. After the air filter fully dries, re-oil your air filter with the K&N filter oil squeeze bottle and then reinstall the filter for full performance and protection.

The 63-1136 air intake fits the following Polaris models:

Jimmie Johnson racing during the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway

Jimmie Johnson won the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday. Johnson, a seven time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion, won his first race of the season. This was the seventh time that Johnson has won at Texas Motor Speedway, and the 81st win of his career.

“Just a great race car, and it was nice to really execute all day long” Johnson said. “I think we've just been trying too hard. You know, we won the championship, obviously, last year, and feel like we have good cars and want to come out and be aggressive. To dial in right at 100 percent is just tough to do”.

Johnson led twice for 18 laps during the 334 lap race. Johnson received 49 points and 5 playoff points. Johnson is currently in 11th place in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Standings with 190 points.

Kyle Larson came in second place for the fourth time this season. Larson started in the 32nd position after his car didn't pass initial inspections. Larson was in front but was sent back on a caution on Lap 33, and could not pass Joey Logano until late in the race to snatch second place.

Greg Anderson Wins K&N Horsepower Challenge in Las Vegas for Record 6th Time

Greg Anderson, NHRA, The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, K&N Horsepower Challenge, KB Racing

NHRA Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson won the K&N Horsepower Challenge in Las Vegas

NHRA Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson had home-track advantage at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a history of winning the K&N Horsepower Challenge, and a little revenge on his mind in the final against Shane Gray. Anderson won the $50,000 K&N Horsepower Challenge in one of the closest races of the day, finishing 0.015 seconds ahead of Gray in the final round.

“This means the world,” Anderson said. “This is the most fun race of the year for me. I love K&N (filters) and all they do for this class and the sport in general. Without them, it wouldn’t be the same. Six wins; that’s $300,000, can you imagine that? That’s more money than I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Anderson won the sixth K&N Horsepower Challenge of his career. Ken Black, the owner of his KB Racing team, lives in Las Vegas. It made winning the K&N Horsepower Challenge in Las Vegas sweeter.

NHRA driver Greg Anderson won $50,000 in the K&N Horsepower Challenge in Las Vegas

“To come out here in front of Ken Black and get the job done is awesome,” Anderson said on Saturday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “That’s home field advantage and we made the most of it. Every time you race it can go either way. It goes back and forth. They say you can’t win them all. We try to but the truth is you’re not gonna.”

Anderson lost to Tanner Gray in the second round of the NHRA Pro Stock races in Las Vegas. Two weeks ago at Gatornationals in Gainesville, Florida, Anderson lost to Shane Gray, Tanner’s father, in the final.

“That (Gainesville final) was a tough loss. I took it personally. I made a mistake and I think I lost the race because of it,” Anderson said. “If I had lost twice I would have had a tough time dealing with it.”

NHRA driver Shane Gray lost to Greg Anderson by .015 seconds in the final of the K&N Horsepower Chal

Anderson, a four-time NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock champion, won the K&N Horsepower Challenge in 2016, 2011, 2010, 2006 and 2004. He was the No. 2 seed in the 2017 K&N Horsepower Challenge based on his qualifying efforts in the past 23 NHRA Pro Stock events. Anderson beat Allen Johnson and his KB Racing teammate Bo Butner in the first two round of the eight-driver K&N Horsepower Challenge field. Anderson gave credit to his crew chief Rob Downing for giving him a “perfect race car.”

“The sun was out today and that made it tricky for for crew chiefs,” Anderson said. “The truth is that Rob Downing did a better job managing that track than any of the other crew chiefs. That (Cold Hart Art) trophy is beautiful and I love it but it’s going to Rob Downing.”

Shane Gray, making his fourth appearance in the K&N Horsepower Challenge, reached the final after beating Vincent Nobile in the opening round. Shane Gray, who drives for Gray Manufacturing Technologies, beat Erica Enders, two-time winner of the K&N Horsepower Challenge, in the second round before meeting Anderson in the final.

Add Horsepower to Your 2016 & 2017 Nissan Titan Cummins Diesel With a K&N Air Intake System

The aluminum shield protects the cool intake air from underhood temperatures

The AirCharger intake kit is comprised of the intake tube, aluminum heat shield, and XD filter

The 5.0L V8 Cummins turbodiesel fitted to the 2016 and 2017 Nissan Titan XD appears to be sort of a “Goldilocks” capacity between the smaller 2.8L diesels Chevrolet installs in its Colorado and the 6.6L V8 Diesel available in the Silverado. Horsepower for the Cummins is 310, right between the 181 horsepower produced by the 2.8L Duramax and the 445 horsepower output of the 6.6L Duramax V8.

By adding a K&N 63-6017 AirCharger performance intake kit you can pull further away from the Colorado and move closer to the Silverado in terms of both horsepower and torque. In chassis dynamometer testing the AirCharger Kit added an estimated 11.15 horsepower at the rear wheels. Torque was increased by an estimated 15.57 lb-ft as well.

The Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is an entirely new engine design that combines a cylinder block cast from compacted graphite iron, like that used in large industrial diesel engines, with a forged steel crankshaft, and high-strength aluminum alloy heads.

The Titan XD’s engine is fitted with a two-stage turbocharger that operates efficiently at either low or high engine speeds. Coupled with high pressure fuel injection driven by integrated electronic controls, the fuel system, along with the turbocharger allow the 5.0L V8 to deliver a peak torque of 555 lb-ft.

Adding power to a turbocharged diesel engine is a fairly straightforward task. If you can deliver a greater volume of intake air, which is then compressed by the turbo, the engine’s computer responds by adding incremental fuel, producing more power at the wheels. A fast, simple, and inexpensive way to increase the power output of your Cummins engine Titan is the installation of a K&N AirCharger performance intake kit.

The heat shield and filter are designed to be located in the original air box space

Installation is a snap and can often be completed in less than 90 minutes

The K&N 63-6017 intake system replaces the restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing on the 2016 and 2017 Nissan Titan XD diesel. Increased intake air, which translates to horsepower, is freed up by the K&N AirCharger kit, which significantly improves incoming air flow as well as reduces turbulence in the intake tube.

Cool, outside air first enters the RF-1042XD oversized conical K&N high-flow air filter sited within a heat shield, which are both installed in the original air box space. The heat shield protects the cooler outside air directed to the engine from horsepower-robbing underhood temperatures.

Much of the horsepower increase can be credited to the XD air filter, which is manufactured from multiple layers of oiled extra-fine weave cotton filter media originally developed for competitors in the Baja 1000. Oiled cotton has been selected as it offers less resistance than traditional filters. The extra fine filtering medium also captures microparticles that could damage your Cummins diesel, to help ensure a long engine life. Each design is verified through K&N’s in-house ISO 5011 compliant filtration testing lab, which ensures that your K&N filter provides high airflow without putting engine protection at risk.

The K&N RU-1042XD provides outstanding air flow with excellent filtration characteristics

The included XD filter was developed for the punishing conditions faced by Baja racers

Air is then directed through an aerodynamically-engineered intake tube directly to the engine’s turbo inlet to generate an estimated 11.15 horsepower gain. The intake tube includes fittings for the OEM mass airflow (MAF) sensor, and inlet air temperature sensor. Best of all, the K&N 63-6017 AirCharger intake system can be installed in 90 minutes or less with simple hand tools

And once you’ve installed your K&N cold air intake system you’ve eliminated the need to buy another air filter for the life of your covered 2016-2017 Nissan Titan XD diesel. The only maintenance is a simple service you can do yourself. At intervals of 100,000 miles (more frequently when used in dusty or off-road environments) use the K&N 99-5000 recharger kit to clean and refresh your air filter, preparing it for another 100,000 miles of driving. The RF-1042XD K&N air filter included in the AirCharger kit is designed to last for the lifetime of your Titan, which K&N guarantees will perform for up to 10 years or 1,000,000 miles without requiring replacement.

The K&N 63-6017 AirCharger performance intake kit is designed for the following vehicles:

Kevin Harvick Enters NASCAR K&N Pro Series West Race at Sonoma Raceway

NASCAR, K&N Pro Series West, Kevin Harvick, Sonoma Raceway

NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick will enter the Sonoma K&N Pro Series West race in June

Kevin Harvick has won 35 NASCAR Cup Series races, two NASCAR Xfinity Series championships, one Cup Series title, and a K&N Pro Series West title. In his only West Series race in Sonoma, he won.

He can repeat that feat in June.

Harvick, a driver for Stewart-Haas Racing in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series, will enter the K&N Pro Series West race at Sonoma Raceway.

“(I’m) going to be the old guy that shows up,” Harvick, said on his Sirius XM Radio show, “Happy Hours”. “I have fun when I go do those events. You’d love to win and you want to go out and do that obviously to be competitive, but it’s really, it’s just a series that gave me several breaks and several opportunities to showcase what I did as a kid.”

Harvick won the K&N Pro Series West championship in 1998. He won five races that year, the last coming at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. He also won races at Auto Club Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The last time he raced in the K&N Pro Series was in 2007 at Iowa Speedway. He won that race, which included a field of drivers from the K&N Pro Series West and East.
