1937 Ford Roadster Known as Suicide Blonde is Texas Car Builder's Standout Streetrod

Mitch Henderson, owner of Mitch Henderson Designs, has been playing with cars for as long as he can remember. The thirty-five year old car builder and designer can remember his father bringing him toy cars home from work when he was as young as three. "My father took me to my very first car show at five years old, I was hooked from there! Since then, I have either built it, raced it, or showed it at one time or another!

Based in McKinney, Texas, Mitch Henderson Designs is a small design firm that specializes in high end show cars. Mitch has been turning out cars professionally since 1995 that have been featured on national magazine covers and garnered coverage on television, local and national newspapers, and various internet sites. Henderson's cars have received prestigious awards from the ISCA, Goodguys Rod & Custom Association and SEMA Show Industry.

Perhaps Mitch's most well known project is Suicide Blonde, a 1937 Ford Roadster. "Suicide Blonde has been a very successful car for me, says Henderson. "She has been up for Goodguys Streetrod of the year, Americas Most Beautiful Streetrod, numerous other Goodguys awards, Boyd Coddington Pro Picks, Chip Foose Pro Pick, and most recently a Builders Choice Award."

Mitch has not only been playing with cars for as long as he can remember, but he's been using K&N filters on those cars as well. "The funny thing is, I can remember using K&N filters on all my go karts, four wheelers, show cars & trucks, and race cars since I was about five years old," says Henderson. "K&N makes the best filter, they make it easy, they never fail and there is an application for anything." Suicide Blonde is outfitted with a K&N filter, along with all Henderson's project cars. "I've never had a K&N filter let me down, never received a bad unit, and I've never, ever had to warranty one in the seven years that I have had my retail store. I think that pretty much speaks for itself. If I have to put my name on it, it better not come back to haunt me. K&N filters have never let me down, so that gives me confidence in my product choice."

K&N Air Intake Provides Mazda 6 with a Lively 11+ Horsepower Increase

First introduced in 2002 the Mazda 6 spearheaded Mazda's movement in a new direction. The Mazda 6 is sportier than other cars in its class, both in styling and performance. Often considered more agile and fun to drive than its 4-door counterparts, the Mazda 6 is a car for those who enjoy driving.  K&N understands this passion for driving, which is why K&N engineers designed a Performance Air Intake System (69-6027TTK) for the Mazda 6 2.3L I4.

With the addition of K&N's new Performance Air Intake System, part number 69-6027TTK, Mazda 6 owners can realize a gain of nearly 12 horsepower at the wheels!  K&N's Research and Development Department tests of 2007 Ford Fusion 2.3L I4 models on our in-house dynamometer showed an increase of horsepower throughout the RPM range with a peak gain of 11.94 horsepower @ 5382 RPM. The 69-6027TTK intake provides increased performance and an attractive black powder coated aluminum intake tube.

K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten airflow.  Less restriction means more power and torque when you need it. With a K&N Performance Air Intake System, Mazda 6 owners can count on extra horsepower whether running errands, or weaving along a winding mountain road.

This air intake system uses a conical shaped high-flow air filter (RU-4870) and a powder coated aluminum heat shield in place of the vehicle's stock air box.  This K&N air filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required depending on driving conditions. Improving the air path between the filter and the engine is the powder coated aluminum intake tube. Our powder coated aluminum intake tubes offer power and a stylish appearance.  The 69-6027TTK air intake takes about 90 minutes or less to install, using stock mounting points, and is covered by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty.

For increased protection and style, K&N offers a Drycharger® filter wrap that can be used in conjunction with part number 69-6027TTK.  Drychargers® are made from a durable polyester material containing uniform micron openings which will stop small dirt particles and repel water; yet add little restriction to the airflow of your filter. Available in a variety of colors, K&N Drychargers® can be color coordinated with your car.

Vaters was the crowd favorite because he carried the decals of the local hockey team called the Montreal Habs. “My teammate Trey Myers was sporting the Boston Bruins logos,” said Vaters. “We wanted to build the rivalry and get the fans all fired up.”

The Black Stallion took on 11 other Monster Trucks including Avenger, Brutus, Bounty Hunter, Iron Outlaw, Shock Therapy, Excalibur, Iron Warrior, Wrecking Crew, Spike, Aftershock and Screamin Demon.

The sold out event hosted more than 54,000 spectators who watched a racing course with two sets of cars in each lane. The course was very technical and it looked as if the trucks were on rails as they eliminated competitors.

Bounty Hunter and Black Stallion had excellent runs and were leading the event. Coming out on the last turn, Jimmy Creten got the advantage and took the win.

The freestyle exhibition was the final event of the night. Aftershock began but had steering problems. Trey Myers and the Iron Warrior were determined to win over the crowd but the unpopular Bruin stickers on his Monster Truck kept the crowd quite. “Trey stopped in the center of the floor,” said Vaters. “He got out of the Iron Warrior and slapped the Bruins decals to taunt the crowd. The crowd came to life and erupted with cheers and Trey ripped the decals off the truck and stomped them into the floor.”

When it was Vaters’ turn for freestyle, he was up against the Bounty Hunter. The Bounty Hunter launched in the air but got stuck in the middle of a motor home on the floor. Vaters attempted to nudge the Bounty Hunter free by bumping his rear tire, but it would not budge. Vaters punched the gas and launched the Black Stallion into the motor home destroying what was left. It collapsed and the Bounty Hunter was free to resume freestyle action.

Vaters uses K&N air and oil filters on his Monster Trucks. “Over my many years in this business I’ve used a lot of products, but K&N is the one that can handle the dirty and dusty environment during Monster Jam competitions,” said Vaters. “We are known nationwide for our wild and crazy driving and the ability to push our engines to the limit. We’re hard on our motors and K&N gives us the protection we need for competition.”

Black Stallion’s next event will be in Quebec City, Canada.

Racing Legend Gary Scelzi Has Two Sons Who are Hard to Beat on the Track

Gary Scelzi dominated the Top Fuel Class of NHRA drag racing. In 2005 he defeated John Force and Robert Hight to win the NHRA Funny Car Championship. It was the first time in 13 years a team other than John Force Racing won the NHRA Funny Car Championship.

Scelzi is also the second person in NHRA history to win championships in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. He is also the only NHRA driver to have wins in Top Fuel, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car. His NHRA Drag Racing Stats fill the record books, but Scelzi is happily retired, if you can call it retirement.

He helps run Scelzi Enterprises, a custom truck body design and manufacturing family business in Fresno, California. He is also a proud Papa. His two boys, Giovanni and Dominic have inherited their father’s racing genes.

Giovanni Scelzi is 7 years old and Dominic is 12. Both race Restricted 600 Mini Sprints and both know how to drive. “My boys are winning like crazy,” said Scelzi. “Giovanni, aka Hot Sauce won his fourth straight in Lemoore, California. He is beating kids who are 10, 11 and 12 years old.”

The Scelzi’s moved Dominic up to the men’s division at Lemoore. “We did it because we are leading in points and are undefeated in Visalia,” he said. “Visalia is a 600cc restricted division. To our surprise he qualified 5th out of 20 cars and had to start in the back of the 30 lap main event. Dominic made it to 12th in 10 laps. On lap 26, he did not have the strength to go one more lap so he pulled in. We are very proud of him for doing that and he received high marks from all the older competitors.”

Scelzi said he bought Dominic a go kart when he was only 5-years-old. “I was always home on Wednesdays because I had to go race on Thursday,” said Scelzi. “Dominic was always out of school at noon on Wednesday and I would take him to the track and he would drive lap after lap. Game On!”

Scelzi is a big believer in K&N. “K&N filters are great,” he said. “We support the company and the product.” Next race for the Scelzi’s will be in Lemoore and Visalia this weekend.
