K&N sponsored driver Cody Swanson knew he had to be prepared. “I was a little bummed about running on the big track,” said Swanson. “I prefer the tight racing on a smaller track. I talked to my driving coach about it and received some last minute advice.”

The advice worked because Swanson finished 2nd in the heat race and won the 25 lap feature.

Swanson started in the 5th position for the heat. “It was a clean race with no real drama,” he said. “I drove to a 2nd place finish in my Goodwine Glass, K&N Filters, Lucas Oil No. 71.”

In the feature race, Swanson started in 5th position. He took the lead coming out of the turn before the first lap was finished. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said Swanson. “It was as if they all knew I was coming and just moved out of my way. It must have been because of the additional horsepower from my K&N filters.” In the end Swanson took the checkered flag with a seven car lead.

“It was awesome,” said Swanson. “I have so many people to thank for helping me get here. K&N has provided the air filters, oil filters and breather filters for me since my early days of kart racing. The Kings Speedway track was very dry and dusty. K&N protected my engine and kept all of the dust and dirt out. I would not set a tire on a race track without my K&N filters protecting my engine.”

The Swanson Motorsports team will head back to Kings Speedway on October 3rd for the next USAC Ford Focus race.

Extremely Popular Ford F250 Super Duty Truck Achieves Nearly 14 More Horsepower With K&N Air Intake

The popularity of Ford’s F250 Super Duty does not come as much of a surprise. Ford offers an incredible number of options for its Super Duty line. This means that the F250 can be equipped as a hard working fleet vehicle, or a fully loaded luxury hauler.

Whatever the owner’s needs are, the F250 Super Duty is sure to satisfy. After all, the F250 can handle colossal payloads while still being easy and comfortable to drive. To add even more power and driving ease for those hefty loads, owners of the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Ford F250 (F-250) can add K&N’s performance air intake system 77-2577KTK.

With the addition of K&N's new Performance Air Intake System (77-2577KTK), F250 owners can realize a gain of nearly 14 extra horsepower. K&N's Research and Development Department tested a 2008 Ford F250 Super Duty 5.4 liter V8 on our in-house dynamometer. Results showed horsepower gains across the RPM range with an impressive 13.93 horsepower gain @ 4077 RPM at the wheels! K&N’s 77-2577KTK air intake system gives F250 Super Duty 5.4 liter V8 owners the power they are craving.

K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction as they smooth and straighten airflow. K&N cold air intakes completely replace the factory air intake assembly with an aerodynamically engineered tube and an oversized conical air filter. With a K&N Performance Air Intake System, consumers can count on increased acceleration and horsepower whether towing a toy hauler trailer, or heading to the job site.

This air intake system uses a conical shaped chrome top high-flow air filter (RC-5173) and powder coated aluminum heat shield in place of the vehicle's stock air box lid. The result is a high-flow air filter that captures harmful particles, provides a large surface area, and has a long service life. This K&N air filter performs for up to 100,000 miles before service is required, depending on driving conditions.

Improving the air path between the filter and the engine is the black powder coated, mandrel bent aluminum intake tube. Our black powder coated aluminum intake tubes offer power and a stock appearance. 77-2577KTK takes about 90 minutes or less to install, requires no cutting or drilling, and is covered by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty®.

For increased protection and style, K&N offers Drycharger® filter wrap number RC-5173DK that can be used in conjunction with 77-2577KTK. Drychargers® are made from a durable polyester material containing uniform micron openings which will stop small dirt particles and repel water; yet add little restriction to the airflow of the filter.

Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association Racing Team Defies Odds in 2009

UL-11 Power Punch Racing Team UL-11 Power Punch Racing Team

The Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association (ULHRA) has been racing automotive powered hydroplanes since 1995. This year, K&N sponsored a relative newcomer to the sport, Darren Bartels and his UL-11 Power Punch Racing Team. The boat is powered by a GM 468 cubic inch, blown, alcohol injected engine that puts out nearly 1000 horsepower and can reach top speeds in excess of 150 mph.

The team, coming off a first year finish of fourth place in National High points, had lofty goals for 2009.  The season started in Phoenix Arizona, but the UL-11 had some mechanical issues in its first two heats. During its third heat it ran flawlessly and won but too little, too late, as it didn't make the final.

“We had some down time after Phoenix”, says Bartels, “So we decided to take off in two different directions.” A weekend crew worked on repainting the boat, and a Tuesday/Thursday night crew worked to ensure there was no repeat of the events that happened in Phoenix.

“We got everything done in time to do a couple displays and a couple parades and then got out to Chamberlain, South Dakota for our second race of the year”, Bartels said.  This was an important race with a golden opportunity to do well. The engine however, would not sustain power at high RPM and would practically die. The problem was eventually found to be in the pickling process used between races, but it was too late for that weekend. “We sent the engine back to Seattle for repairs and received it back the following Friday morning in Polson, Montana.” Bartels added.

The boat ran very strong at Polson. “I’d never seen it go that fast” said Bartels, "but going into turn one on the restart of the first heat, the propeller sheared a blade, pretzled the shaft and ripped out the transom of the boat, eventually sinking the boat in the cold waters of the Flathead river.” The team plans to repair the boat in the off-season this winter.

Over the next several weekends Bartels leased and renumbered several boats in the circuit, to the UL-11, and continued to support his sponsors, sometimes leasing two boats during a weekend to cover everyone.  Eventually, in Silverdale, Washington after several different boats and drivers, Bartels teamed up with Bob Schellhase, who owned the UL-12. A deal was made, the boat was renumbered with new graphics applied.  The boat was then called the Power Punch Performance Lubricants / Roxy Radio 94 five / K&N Filters UL-11. All of that fancy footwork certainly paid off, because after a fierce battle throughout the weekend, Driver Brian Perkins took the new UL-11 across the finish line first and gave Darren and his team their first victory!

“I know I will relive the excitement of that first victory for years to come,” said Bartels. “A lot of what we are able to do throughout the season is because of the support of sponsors like K&N. Their oil filters and breather filters are by far the best in the business and we are proud to be associated with such an iconic name in the industry.”

John Lynch, “Voice of the ULHRA” had this to say. “It’s an old racing adage to do the best you can with what you have. Darren Bartels' commitment to his sponsors and doing the best with what he had rather than folding the tent ultimately led him to his first ever race victory.”

Allard and the Williams Motorsports Team put together an impressive race and scored a second top-five in the World of Outlaws sanctioned event. Allard finished 4th on Saturday night. In the 2008 event, Allard finished third.
The Chico, California native scored a third place finish in the opening heat race on Friday night and took fourth place in the dash. This put him in an outside row starting spot for the 30 lap preliminary main event.

Allard ran with the top five contenders for most of the race and exchanged positions with Tim Kaeding several times. After a handful of laps Allard lost a spot and finished sixth on opening night.

By Saturday, Allard had enough points to put the K&N Filters machine on the outside of the third row for the $50,000 to win Gold Cup Race of Champions main event. After 40 laps of racing Allard finished in 4th place, behind Joel Saldana, Jason Sides and Jason Meyers.

“It was an honor to run up front with the best guys in sprint car racing,” said Allard. “The car has been fast throughout the season and I want to thank our sponsors and supporters who give us the opportunity to race. We use K&N oil and air filters along with K&N’s carbon fiber air box. K&N makes the best products, the oil and air filters are easy to use and maintain. K&N gives us an edge in sprint car racing and is dependable every time.”

K&N supported driver Andy Forsberg and the A&A Motorsports Team started 3rd in the B-main event on Friday night. “Andy raced hard,” said Candace Forsberg, Andy’s mother. “With only two laps remaining our Crew Chief Brian Cannon was hit in the head with a rock and needed six stitches. He didn’t let it stop him from working and made adjustments on Andy’s car for the start of the A-main.” In the end Forsberg took 19th place.

“It was a great weekend for the A&A Motorsports Team,” said Forsberg. “We made our 4th A-main with the World of Outlaws at the Gold Cup in four out of the last seven years. It’s also great to have supporters like K&N who make great products. We wouldn’t use any other filter on our race cars.”

Allard and the Williams Motorsports Team return to racing with the Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals this October and Forsberg and the A&A Motorsports Team head to Petaluma Speedway for 360 Civil War Race in California September 19.
