K&N Enthusiast Angel Gonzales Describes Custom Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo While Bloodworms Melted

Peacock Eel (slimy water worm) led the way to K&N enthusiast Angel Gonzales
I worked all day at K&N, but as we all know, life doesn't stop when you get home from work. I never expected however, that a Peacock Eel , pampered Shih Tzu, handfuls of melted bloodworms, snapping turtles, some guy in an orange shirt, two handed gestures and K&N enthusiasm, would somehow become connected before the night was up.

It was late, and I was getting ready to sit down and relax before heading to bed, when I realized I used the last of the bloodworms feeding my Peacock Eel (and tank mates) last night. After serious contemplation as to whether or not the eel would survive a night without being fed, I decided that I needed to be a responsible pet owner and just feed the slimy water worm. I rounded up the kids, grabbed the jackets and headed off to Petco.

The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I realized I should have stayed home. I could have fed it some of that canned cat food I've had in the cupboard for over a year. Anything would have been better than driving around looking for a place to park. I slowly drove down the center lane in front of the entrance while some guy and his pampered Shih Tzu slowly walked to their car. About half way down, they walked right between the parked cars to their Cressida in the next lane over, and surrendered their spot to an Escalade that just got there. I wound up parking at the far end of the lot, where my kids pointed out a K&N decal proudly displayed on the Toyota pickup we parked next to.

The kids and I got out of the car and walked toward the front of the store. The moment our feet entered the building, I was left to fend for myself, while the kids pretend that daddy just might let them bring another animal in the house.

I grabbed a frozen brick of bloodworms and headed to the register. There were several people in line and two registers open. Most of the attention in line was focused on register two, where this guy in an orange T-shirt was sure that the 10lb bag of gourmet bird seed was on sale for two bucks. By the time I was next in line, I was holding a handful of water and melted bloodworm mush.

I looked around for the kids but didn't see them anywhere. I called for my son who was over by the snapping turtles, probably imagining what would happen if, "by accident," a feeder fish was dropped into the tank. I asked him to come here while waving my arm around to indicate a sense of urgency. He casually strolled a few feet closer and yelled, "What?" This wasn't something I wanted to announce to the whole store, so I gestured with both hands, come here. "Take these worms back to the freezer and get me some frozen ones quickly, because I'm up next." Fortunately the guy in front of me was buying an item from the bargain bin and it was missing a price tag, and the bird guy was still arguing that he couldn't be wrong about the price. Then, as if time had sped up, one of the checkers looked over at the line and said, "next." I looked down the aisle and could see my son on his way. He wasn't in much of a hurry, but as soon as he saw the look on my face, he decided it was a good idea to walk faster. I inched toward the register, figuring that as long as I was moving forward, the people behind me would stay calm. I arrived at the check stand without a single product in my hand. I was just about to explain the situation, when my son tossed the frozen worms onto the conveyor belt. I was so ready to go home.

This is when Petco checker, Angel Gonzales asked, "So you work at K&N?" I was a little confused at first, but soon realized I still had my K&N ID badge hanging from my neck. Before I had a chance to respond, Gonzales continued, displaying an uncanny familiarity and appreciation for K&N products. "A friend of mine initially sparked my interest in K&N," said Gonzales. "He had a 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. Essentially he was looking for a cost effective way to get more horsepower out of his vehicle, so he decided to purchase a K&N high flow air filter. We immediately noticed the difference in throttle response and acceleration and the general overall quality of aspiration in the vehicle. I was instantly a fan of the relatively cheap cost, high quality, and longevity of all K&N products. I always recommend them over any other product."

Gonzales drives a 1991 Nissan 300ZX twin turbo with a K&N performance air intake and K&N oil filter. A tremendous amount of time, money and effort has been invested by Gonzales to build this car in the direction of his vision. The 300 features new JWT's Sport 700 "Disco Potato" ball bearing turbos with three-inch downpipes, CP Pistons, Eagle Rods, Arp Head Studs, Nismo 850cc injectors, and a bunch more.

We ended up talking for about a half hour. I was very impressed with his genuine, real-world enthusiasm for K&N products. This was an average guy who heard about K&N and decided to try it. Through his own experience with the products, has become a K&N performance enthusiast.

The kids and I walked to the other side of the parking lot where our car was parked. The kids pointed out that the K&N decaled truck was still parked next to us. While the kids hopped into the back seat, I opened the passenger door to put the bloodworms on the floor. I just shook my head, as if I didn't believe it could be, when I discovered the bloodworms had melted once again. "Well," I thought to myself. "That's just how it's going to be."

Chevy Corvette ZR-1 6.2L Gains Estimated 27 Horsepower with K&N Carbon-Fiber Air Intake, No Fool'in!

In 1953 Chevrolet made history by producing a car that would go on to be one of the most popular sports cars of all time; a sportscar none other than the Chevrolet Corvette. Of course, in 1953 the Corvette was very different than it is today. It came with a 150 horsepower 235 cubic inch Blue Flame Inline 6 cylinder engine, and cost only about $3,500. Chevrolet has come a long way since then, and now produces a special edition Corvette called the ZR-1.

The ZR-1 is probably nicknamed "The Blue Devil" because of its remarkable power. It is equipped with a heavily modified version of the LS3 engine. From the manufacturer, it produces over 630 horsepower, and 604 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful production Corvette to date.

If you are a lucky owner of a 2009 to 2013 Corvette ZR-1 with a 6.2 liter engine, then you understand what kind of power this car is really capable of producing. Even with this power you probably would like a little more power for an edge over other ZR-1 owners. K&N engineers came up with an air intake design that reduces intake restriction and produces a lot of extra power for an edge you can feel.

K&N's high performance carbon-fiber air intake system (63-3080) is more than just a beauty piece for your engine compartment. It's also a quick and easy path to an estimated gain of 27 horsepower for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Corvette ZR-1 models with a 6.2 liter engine.

If that's not enough for you, this particular air filter is equipped with a carbon fiber cap and mounting flange as well!

For Second Consecutive Year Jeg Coughlin Dominates the K&N Horsepower Challenge Fan-Vote

K&N Horsepower Challenge
K&N Horsepower Challenge
"R-E-S-P-E-C-T - tell you what it means to me..." Aretha Franklin sang out loud and clear when she schooled us about how much value she put on respect. Five-time world champion drag racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. has another take on it.

"It's an honor to win the final spot for the K&N Horsepower Challenge," Coughlin said. "A big thank you to all of our fans and friends that propelled us to this position. We look forward to answering the effort with a big win in Vegas."

Dominating the votes for the No. 8 starting spot in the 2013 K&N Horsepower Challenge, for the second year in a row, means one thing coming from the legions of devoted fans that follow every move the driver makes - having your fellow competitors rallying fan votes in your favor though - that puts an entirely new shine on respect.

Five-time World Champion Drag Racer Jeg Coughlin Jr. Wins K&N Horsepower Challenge Fan Vote

Coughlin won the fan vote by a wide margin, receiving nearly one-third of the total votes cast by NHRA enthusiasts since voting began in February. However, when Carl Edwards posted a picture on his Facebook page displaying his "Vote Jeg" pin while holding court in the Phoenix Winner circle - it spoke volumes about the racer, as well as the man. That particular moment with Edwards holding the pin and visibly embracing the fan vote at Firebird International Raceway, was in fact deemed so meaningful that it was picked up by several television broadcasts.

Coughlin, a 68-time national event winner, is clearly one of the top-10 drag racers of all time, and the highly respected adversary will be looking for his fourth victory in the lucrative bonus event for qualified Pro Stock teams. Coughlin, the driver of the JEGS.com/Mopar Dodge Avenger will square-off with the event top seed, Allen Johnson, who pilots the Team Mopar Dodge Avenger. The two new teammates last met in the final round of the 2013 Gatornationals earlier this March, and Coughlin is looking to reverse the finishing order in their next meeting.

The K&N Horsepower Challenge is a unique event in that it's a race within a race, and it showcases the top drivers in NHRA Pro Stock competition, for which the winner receives $50,000. The runner-up will receive $10,000, the two semifinalists will each receive $3,000, and the four first-round finishers will each receive $2,500. As part of the program, a $3,000 bonus is awarded to the No. 1 qualifier at each NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event.

The 29th annual K&N Horsepower Challenge will be contested during the running of the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals on Saturday, April 6, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event will be televised by ESPN2HD.

After being voted into the 8th spot two years in a row, Jeg and his team clearly have the promotion of the K&N Horsepower Challenge Fan vote down to a science. Check out who rallied behind Jeg to get him one step closer to that $50,000 paycheck and the custom K&N trophy.

K&N Air Filter Cleaning Provides the Biggest Returns for My Maintenance Efforts

K&N Recharger Kit and My Jeep CJ7
K&N Recharger Kit and My Jeep CJ7
Without question, one of my oldest and most treasured possessions is my 1985 Jeep CJ7 which has 251,867 miles on the odometer. Other than the 500 miles that were put there early on by my wife when she was looking to keep up on her manual transmission skills, I put every klick on that bad boy. The places my CJ and I have been, and the stories we could spin, would sustain many seasons of a Jeep Reality Show.

I take it pretty easy on the CJ these days; it deserves that, being that in all our years together it has never once left me stranded anywhere. I've always been able to hose clamp, duct tape and bubblegum things together enough to roll home. People smirk at the "it's a Jeep thing" mantra, but I'm firmly convinced that my Jeep has an automotive soul that appreciates my regular maintenance as much as I respect it steadfastness.

K&N Performance Air Filter for Jeep CJ7 Cleaned and Ready to be Oiled
K&N Performance Air Filter for Jeep CJ7 Cleaned and Ready to be Oiled
Keeping the air filter clean on the CJ is a must, especially if you tend to run it off-road looking for ideal mountain biking locals. A few years ago I put a K&N E-1080 air filter in my Jeep and I could immediately feel it breathing better. When you spend that many miles in the same car you can even feel when a tire loses a few PSI. I like keeping my Jeep happy and cleaning my air filter has become perhaps my favorite maintenance procedure, simply because of the huge return I get for such a simple task. With a K&N Recharger® Kit 99-5050 or 99-5000, the most time consuming part of cleaning the filter is also the most effortless. I'll get back to that in a minute.

Two wing nuts securing the air filter housing cover is all that separates me from getting to the filter element. In less than a minute I'm holding the air filter and applying K&N PowerKleen® industrial strength degreaser and air filter cleaner. I let the cleaner soak for about 10 minutes on the air filter so that it can thoroughly loosen the dirt and road grime and then I gently rinse it with a hose until the water runs clean. When all of the dirt has been washed out, I know I've cleaned it correctly. If I still see dark patches of red or more dirt after rinsing, I simply spray on more PowerKleen and repeat the procedure until the filter media is clean.
K&N Jeep CJ7 Replacement Air Filter
K&N Jeep CJ7 Replacement Air Filter

Next, it is time to let the filter element completely dry before spraying on the air filter oil. On average that only takes 1-2 hours depending on how warm it is outside. Once the filter is thoroughly dry, I simply spray on the air filter oil slowly and evenly along the peak of each filter pleat, and then let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes or so. The oil's distinctive red color makes it easy to tell if filter is uniformly covered, if there are still spotty areas after allowing the oil to wick, I just spray on a little more oil, and viola, I'm ready to roll. Most K&N air filters can perform up to 50,000 miles between cleaning depending on driving conditions, some more some less. With the way I pamper my jeep, this could be a very long time.

2011 to 2016 Hyundai Veloster Gets More Horsepower from High Performance Air Intake System

Performance Air Intake Installed on Hyundai Veloster

Have you ever wondered what a 3-door, no wait, a 4-door hatchback back from one of the fastest growing car manufacturers in the world would look like? Well look no further than the sporty 2011 to 2016 Hyundai Veloster with 1.6 liter engine. You can't help but smile while looking at the grill that just grins right back at you. From its sporty design to its functional layout, the Hyundai Veloster is an all-around well designed hatchback. Its peppy 1.6 liter, 138 horsepower motor gives it enough get up and go to make driving fun on the highway or through some nice twisty roads. But with nearly every vehicle owner, more power is always nice. K&N agrees and that is why they offer Hyundai Veloster owners a simple fix: a high performance air intake system 69-5304TS.

K&N Hyundai Veloster Air Intake System
K&N Hyundai Veloster Air Intake System

K&N 69-5304TS air intake system is designed around three basic premises; ease of installation, quality of materials and, and of course more horsepower. Veloster owners can rejoice in knowing that K&N's intake system is made from durable aluminum tubing with a just-as-durable Silver powder coated finish. The 69-5304TS was designed to reduce air restriction using Computational Fluid Dynamics software. It has been dyno tested to establish an estimated increase of horsepower. With an estimated jump of 6.4 horsepower at 6400 RPM and 5.4 lb.-ft. of torque at 4200 RPM, K&N's performance intake 69-5304TS breathes new life into the Veloster's 1.6 liter motor.

The 69-5304TS performance air intake system uses the factory mounting points so no modifications to the Hyundai Veloster is needed. Simply remove the stock, restrictive intake system and install K&N's high performance air intake system following the easy to read installation instructions. K&N's Hyundai Veloster air intake provides a connection on the tube for the factory crankcase vent hose and uses a heat shield so cooler outside air enters the engine.

A washable and reusable performance air filter (part RU-4600) comes ready to install and provides excellent filtration while allowing plenty of air to flow into the starving motor. Good for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning, depending on driving conditions, K&N's RU-4600 performance air filter is a tough act to beat! But what if your driving conditions are much dirtier than normal?

K&N has the solution to this problem also, with the optional 22-8036PK air filter wrap. K&N 22-8036PK PreCharger® filter wrap helps extend the service life of the filter by capturing and blocking larger dirt particles while adding minimal restriction to the air flow into the filter. It's a win-win combination!

The best part about K&N air intake 69-5304TS, besides the horsepower increase, is that the whole high performance intake system is backed by K&N's industry leading Million Mile Limited Warranty. In other words, this is the last air intake system your Hyundai Veloster will ever need.

The K&N Typhoon Performance Air Intake System 69-5304TS will fit the following Hyundai Veloster models:

2016 HYUNDAI VELOSTER 1.6L L4
2015 HYUNDAI VELOSTER 1.6L L4
