The first time we took serious notice of Perris, California, native, Bradley Morris was in September of 2009. Bradley was 12, he was holding down a top-three spot in the SxS Nationals and a top-four position in the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series, driving a trophy kart. We learned that racing four wheels was actually his parents doing, Bradley’s first choice was motocross, but his folks nixed that on account of the risk level. So when he was 10, his dad wisely bought him a used trophy truck, in the event racing didn’t take hold. In his very first race Bradley finished 2nd – which is generally unheard of for a first timer, unless there were only two karts in the field. After that the kid was all in.

That initial result wasn’t an anomaly either, not by a long shot, with each season and every race since that first podium finish, Bradley has been devouring the race curve with such ferocity that it’s really anybody’s guess what he’s ultimately capable of.

Last year Bradley was a part of the Long Beach Grand Prix, displaying his Pro Lite in the K&N Filters display area and talking with fans, which included an autograph session and handing out hats and posters. This year he stepped it up and brought a Stadium Super Truck to go racing at the Long Beach Grand Prix. Soaring high above the streets, Bradley showed thousands of Long Beach Grand Prix fans something they’ve never seen before.

This was Bradley’s first race in a Stadium Super Truck and he started on the front row after the qualifying sessions. Bradley was battling in the lead for the first few laps, but when he tried to pass the leader on the outside of a turn, the leader went up on three wheels and pushed wide taking Bradley with him. This allowed third place to slide underneath the two and take the lead. Then only a few laps later Bradley tried to avoid a spinning truck, but ended up hitting the tire wall and spun himself out. Utilizing his intrinsic driving skills, Bradley recovered to finish 6th place in his first Stadium Super Truck event.

“It's pretty amazing to know that I was out there racing on the same track as the Indy car drivers. That is one thing that I would love to do while moving up through different disciplines of racing in my career,” Bradley made known. “I feel that it's neat that the Indy car guys looked at me and said wow that's cool that we're jumping and racing that track in off-road cars. I have never raced anything on asphalt before that race, and I know that I have a lot to learn, but I really enjoyed it and cannot wait to do it again.”

Bradley and the BME Motorsports crew will get their chance “to do it again” at the X Games in Austin, Texas June 5-8, at Circuit of The Americas.

“We don't use different tires but the truck handles completely different,” says Bradley comparing the dirt to the hard stuff. “The way that you turn the truck is totally opposite from when we are on dirt. You cannot slide the truck sideways much at all, and the straighter you can be, the faster you are. It is also very difficult to make passes on the asphalt in an off-road car.”

Before getting his focus too far ahead of with the next SST race however, Bradley had the next rounds of the Lucas Oil Offroad Series at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park to contend with. In round 3 the team had some issues with gearing in the Pro Buggy, yet Bradley still salvaged a 5th place finish.

“I jumped straight out of the buggy and into the Pro Lite and got some redemption by getting the hole shot and leading every lap and setting the fastest lap time of that race,” said Bradley.

“On Sunday I started 7th in the Pro buggy and drove a really tough race and got 3rd. I started 4th in the Pro Lite worked my way to 3rd, then I sat and waited for some opportunities to make passes, but they did not come, so I passed for 2nd and then got into 1st on the last lap, but I got taken out by (Brian) Deegan and finished in 2nd.” Bradley is currently second overall points in both classes.

“I'm only 11 points behind first in Pro Buggy, and one point out of first in Pro Lite and I am going to do everything I can to get both the points leads, and stretch them out giving me a cushion to win the championship later this season,” he adds.

Smart money would take that bet. BME Motorsports returns to LOORS action May 30 – 31 at Wild West Motorsports Park, in Sparks, Nevada.

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) lit the fuse on the exhilarating 2014 short course racing season on the dirt of Wild Horse Motorsports Park – formerly Firebird Raceway – in Chandler, Arizona. During the opening weekend of LOORRS, off-road racing legend Carl Renezeder and his championship crew debuted their new K&N supported, Lucas Oil, General Tire, KMC Wheels, Team Associated Pro-2, with the intention of carrying the positive momentum from last season. The winningest driver in short-course (114 career wins) holds the most national titles of any short-course driver in the history of the sport with nine championships, yet he’s continually searching for ways to add to that tally with every opportunity.

“It's never back to work as usual,” remarked Renezeder referring to his approach to a new season. “We try to learn from every race, and use that knowledge to continue to make the trucks faster and better. I have the best team who, together with my sponsors, are constantly refining the trucks to give us the winning edge.”

Saturday, Renezeder began by qualifying 2nd in the new Pro-2. However qualifying was cut short for the Pro-4 due to front drive train issues. The team went to work though and had the Pro-4 ready by race time.

In the opening laps of the Pro-2 race, contact had Renezeder spinning into 12th place, but after several hard battles, the driver most often associated with the heart of a champion, fought his way back up into a 4th place finish. A very impressive debut indeed for a new truck with limited test time. In the Pro-4 race Renezeder held on to finish in sixth, still fighting off persistent issues with the front-end during the contest.

Sunday, the Pro -2 qualified fifth, and the Pro-4 demonstrated its power, qualifying 1st with the fastest time. In Sunday's race, Renezeder drove his new Pro-2 into 2nd place earning his first podium of the year.

“I'm very satisfied with the performance of the new Pro-2,” said Renezeder. “And I'm really excited that we've been on the podium with the pro-2 at the first race.”

The Pro-4 continued to have front-end problems, and it’s a credit to Renezeder's driving and patience that he made it through most of the four-wheel drive race in two-wheel drive, finishing the race in 4th place and maintaining the lead lap throughout the race.

Regarding the relentless front-end difficulties Renezeder said, “Still struggling a little with the front end, but the team is pretty secure that we'll figure it out. We still have a little homework to do on this, but we'll get it dialed in.”

Rounds 3 and 4 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing were held at Lake Elsinore last weekend and Renezeder earned two hard fought 3rd place finishes in Pro-2.

However, in Pro 4 truck issues continued to plague the team. Renezeder ran a brilliant race battling it out with Kyle Leduc in 1st, at the last turn, as he looked like he might have a chance at a pass. The steering broke and Renezeder did a slow rollover ending his chance at the podium. He got out and let his fans know he was unhurt.

“It’s a bummer to finish out the weekend with problems with the Pro 4," commented Renezeder, “But I'm proud of my entire team and I know they will get everything ironed out before the next event in a few weeks in Sparks, Nevada."

David Mayhew had a rough start to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West season, but he turned it around at Stockton 99 Speedway.

Mayhew won the Stockton 150, the third race of the K&N Pro Series West season. It was quite a rebound after he had to withdraw from the West Series opener in Phoenix, in February, because of a mechanical failure.

Since the Phoenix race, Mayhew has posted a runner-up finish at Irwindale Speedway and a victory at Stockton, the fifth of his K&N Pro Series career.

It was also quite a feat for a driver who scaled back to a part-time schedule on the K&N Pro Series West in 2013.

“We’ve been racing constantly, just bouncing around with different series here and there,” Mayhew said. “It’s different going. We got an all new team again this year, starting fresh with different guys and trying to put the whole season together.”

Mayhew won the pole for the race at Stockton 99 Speedway. He led the first nine laps of the race before yielding to Greg Pursley. Pursley stayed out front for 43 laps before Mayhew regained the lead on lap 53. Mayhew led the rest of the way.

Mayhew said after the race he plans on chasing down Pursley in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West standings too.

“Right off the bat we broke a fuel pump in Phoenix on lap one and put a damper on our season,” Mayhew said. “Bounced back at Irwindale with a second, to come with a win, we need to gain more races like this. We need to gain some points on Greg and a couple of those other guys. It’s going to be tough all year long. We’re going for the championship. That’s our plan.”

Pursley held on for second place, his best finish at Stockton 99 Speedway in four K&N Pro Series West races.

“It was a great race tonight, pretty clean here for Stockton,” Pursley said. “Lapped cars did a good job staying on the bottom and holding their line. They let us put on a good race.”

Pursley leads the K&N Pro Series West standings by nine points over Brandon McReynolds. It was Pursley’s third top-five finish in a row.

Mayhew is in fifth place in the K&N Pro Series West standings, 16 points behind Pursley.

Giles Thornton was third at Stockton, followed by McReynolds in fourth and Thomas Martin in fifth.

“I had a car to go win it or ride it out and fight for third,” Thornton said. “I was watching (Mayhew and Pursley). They were either go and wreck each other or we were going to finish third. I was right on their bumper waiting for them to wreck.”

The next NASCAR K&N Pro Series race is the Casey’s General Store 150 at Iowa Speedway on May 17. It will feature drivers and teams from the K&N Pro Series West and East.
