Starting in last place for the Production 1000 Lucas Oil Regional Off-Road Racing Series main event would frustrate most racers, but K&N sponsored Cody Rahders held his head high

Driving his Polaris sponsored and K&N filters equipped RZR XP 1000 Cody Rahders finished 2nd place in Round 7 of the Lucas Oil Regional Series and won his second consecutive Production 1000 class title. Cody successfully won, then defended his titles, in both the RZR XP and Production 1000 classes. With this title Cody has earned a fourth title in three years at the Lucas Oil Regionals and seventh since he started racing UTV's in 2007.

By lap six Cody Rahders was in second and began to put pressure on the race leader; but he would complete the race nose to tail with the race winner as they crossed the finish line

Beginning with qualifying K&N's Cody Rahders wasn't taking any chances. Cody ran easy laps and qualified third for the main event. However, Cody missed post qualification tech inspection and was penalized by being moved to last place (16th) for the start of the main. "Brain fade. I was thinking about how I should race going into the main and drove right past tech, the penalty made the decision for me," said Rahders.

Driving his Polaris sponsored RZR XP 1000 Cody Rahders finished 2nd place in Round 7 of the Lucas Oil Regional Series and won his second consecutive Production 1000 class title

Starting in last place for the Production 1000 main event would frustrate most racers, but Cody held his head high. As the Production 1000 pack pushed wide into the first turn; Cody took the low line and passed four cars right off the start. Determined to make his way to the front, he was eighth by the end of lap one. At the end of lap two he was in fourth, and by lap six he was in second and began to pressure the race leader.

As the race wore down Cody made a move for the lead almost making contact in a couple of the turns. Cody decided to wait for the last lap, ride the leader's rear bumper, and hopefully force a mistake. The mistake Cody hoped for never came and he completed the race nose to tail with the race winner as they crossed the finish line.

"The most fun I've had in a long time! Starting last was a relief, I would have started third but instead to playing defense for 12 laps I got to drive relaxed, work the pack, and hope my momentum carried me to the win. Once the second place in point's car broke I wanted the win but didn't have to anymore so I just kept the pressure on the leader hoping to force a mistake. In the end the title was more important."

The K&N 50-state legal performance air intake system for 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L V8 models is a little different from the average K&N performance air intake. Instead of using an open element air filter system, K&N designers chose to retain the use of the 2010-2014 Chevrolet Camaro 6.2L V8 stock air box when designing the 57-3074 K&N performance air intake system. K&N air intake 57-3074 replaces the most restrictive factory components with performance designed parts from K&N. By working around the stock Chevy Camaro air filter box K&N Intake designers were able to retain all factory connections, including stock emissions control equipment, to create a 50-state street legal air intake system available to residents of California and other states with similar emission controls.

K&N’s Phil Cooper Took British Autograss National Champion Titles in Class 9 & 10

Autograss racing is the biggest form of amateur motor racing in Britain. Autograss meets take place at venues throughout England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Autograss racing is held on natural surfaces such as grass or mud and usually on a 400 metre oval track. K&N sponsored Autograss competitor Phil Cooper participates in both class 9 and class 10 races. Class 9 Autograss cars are often the most competitive in open-class races by combining light weight with the power of naturally aspirated engines up to 2070 cc in displacement. Class 10 takes purpose built Autograss cars one step further and with a minimum displacement of 2071 cc, class 10 cars are often the most powerful in British Autograss.

Each year the first weekend in August means just one thing to Autograss racers, the National Championships. The National Championships consist of one event held each year for men’s classes, with another event for ladies and junior classes. The National Championships gathers all the local Autograss clubs together to compete for the prestigious Champion of Champions title. In 2015 the National Championships took place at Withington Estate in Herefordshire and was hosted by the Severn Valley Autograss club. 2000 drivers from all over the United Kingdom used early season meetings as a chance to qualify in the top 400 to be eligible to race the National Championships.

In Class 9 at the 2015 National Championships, K&N Filters’ Phil Cooper got a perfect start. He grabbed the hole shot heading into turn one before pulling away from the field. Phil earned a first place at the 2015 National Championships in Class 9. His class 10 race didn’t go as smoothly. Phil’s more powerful class 10 car pulled a wheelie off the starting line. Officials stopped the race and ordered a restart. Unfortunately Phil was excluded from the restart. The final race of the day is the Champion of Champions race where the winners from each class all run against one another. The fast cars, like Phil’s, are handicapped to give the other class winners a fighting chance. Despite starting 1-1/2 laps behind the first car Phil took over the lead on the final lap earning the Champion of Champions title.

While Phil Cooper had already been named the Champion of Champions at the Nationals, his Autograss season wasn’t over yet. Round 4 of the British Autograss series also took place at Withington Estate in Herefordshire. Phil went into round 4 leading the championship in class 9. Phil had an excellent day in class 9 taking the win in the final. Good heat races, followed by this win, secured the 2015 class 9 championship for Phil with one round remaining. K&N supported Phil Cooper also had an excellent day in class 10. He entered round 4 in third place, but by the end of the day he had advanced into first.

The final round of the British Autograss series took place in York on September 19th and 20th, 2015. Although Phil had claimed the class 9 title the class 10 championship and overall championship were still in the balance. The class 10 races couldn't have gone any better for Phil. He took 3 heat wins and a convincing win in the final. Phil captured the checkered flag with over a half lap lead to secure the class 10 British Autograss championship title. Phil also led the overall championship out of the 500+ registered drivers. Following 3 heat wins K&N air filters sponsored Phil Cooper had secured the overall win before the finals took place. This was the third time that Phil had taken the overall win but the first time in the history of Autograss that someone had won the Overall British Autograss championship and the Nationals champion of champions in the same year.

Optima USCA Auto Club Speedway Weekend Gets Started at K&N Filters Factory Car Show

The Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car began its final OUSCI qualifier at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California with a car show at K&N headquarters to welcome drivers and fans

The Ultimate Street Car Association (USCA) is a sanctioning body formed to create safe, fun and high profile national automotive events for street legal performance vehicles. The USCA, in association with several key sponsors, came together to promote nine nationwide Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car events in 2015. All nine events serve as a qualifier for a highly coveted spot in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational event held each November in Las Vegas, Nevada following the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show.

In 2014, K&N Headquarters in Riverside, California played host as one of the stops along the Detroit Speed Road Rally and this in turn inspired the K&N Factory Car Show for 2015

Part of the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car challenge is the Detroit Speed Road Rally designed to test each car’s ability to function as a street legal performance vehicle. In 2014, K&N Headquarters in Riverside, California played host as one of the stops along the Detroit Speed Road Rally. Because the event was held on a Saturday night very few K&N employees, and almost no public audience, was able to witness the amount of time and ingenuity put into the cars competing in the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car series.

Despite the heat wave in Southern California, there were nearly 100 entries in the final USCA event, and many of those cars packed the K&N Filters Headquarters’ front parking lot

This fact inspired interested parties at K&N to become more involved in the USCA event for 2015. The majority of the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car competitors arrived a day or two before the USCA event in Fontana and they all love their cars. So why not host a car show at K&N Filters’ corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Riverside, California to welcome the competitors and share the experience with K&N employees? So began the first, hopefully, of many K&N Filters Factory Car shows designed to welcome Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car competitors to Southern California.

It’s hard to complain about almost yearlong sunshine, however Southern California only experiences two seasons. Southern California, especially the areas inland from the coast, has a rainy season and a hot season with some mild periods in between. The week leading up to the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California began with rain; however the heat was once again nearing triple digits as the weekend approached. Despite the heat, there were nearly 100 entries in the final USCA event of the regular season, and many of those cars packed the K&N Headquarters’ front parking lot.

In addition to the car’s competing in the USCA event, many of the Optima Search for the Ultimate Street car series sponsors attended the car show at K&N. USCA sponsors in attendance at the K&N factory car show included: Optima Batteries, Falken Tire, Lingenfelter Performance Engineering, Wilwood Disc Brakes, and Detroit Speed & Engineering. Additional K&N partner companies, such as Clarion Audio, RideTech, Total Cost Involved, Go Rhino Products, 742 Marketing, and Hanro Studios were in attendance showing their support for the K&N factory car show. With so much support from within the performance aftermarket industry and from the K&N sponsored racers in attendance this event should be even better in 2016.
