Andy Forsberg in front of the F&F X1 360 Sprint Car and a Fan
When you've been in racing as long as Auburn, California native Andy Forsberg has been, you're bound to experience every up and down there is. This season has been no different for Forsberg, but like always, he has found ways to battle through adversity and the good results are starting to roll in.
Andy Forsberg Family #92 Sprint Car
The seven-time and three-time defending California Sprint Car Civil War Series champion is in contention for his eighth championship this year, but a scary crash will keep Forsberg from challenging for his third Silver Dollar Speedway championship.
"I have been very lucky in my racing career, in that I've always gotten out of the car after a wreck," Forsberg said. "But this year during a heat race at Chico (California's) Silver Dollar Speedway, I got upside-down…my crew was waiting to put another wing on the car, but when the car came back down, it hit square on the rear-end."
"Sprint cars don't have much of a suspension, so when it landed, it slammed flat on the ground. I thought I broke my back, I was in and out of consciousness and I had to be pulled from the car and taken to the hospital for observation. I was lucky, everything was alright…but because it happened in a heat race, I missed the main and got no points for the night, ending my chances for a championship."
Despite that scare, Forsberg also had a bright moment at Silver Dollar this year. After crashing his family-owned No. 92 car, Forsberg and longtime friend Cody Gainy of P.T. Shocks got together for the Silver Cup race.

"We kind of talked about it and said ‘what the heck, lets try it,'" Forsberg said. "We won our first night at the Silver Cup. Then we went down to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville (California) a few weeks later. The promoter was offering a $1,500 bonus to any Civil War Series driver to make the long haul to the track and win a Taco Bravo main event.
"We won that night, and it was really funny because the promoter didn't recognize the car I was driving, and when he walked down on the track to congratulate the winner, I took my helmet off, and he just about had a heart attack. $1,500 out the door!"
The one surprise for fans of Forsberg and the driver himself is the lack of victories in the F&F X1 entry.
"That's the car I've had the most success in," Forsberg said. "I'm a little surprised we haven't won yet. We've had a lot of top five's, but no wins."
A racer's racer, Forsberg runs as much as possible, and he says that's why he keeps coming back to tracks like Silver Dollar and to series like the Civil War.
"Really we are not attracted to any one series, we just love to race," Forsberg said. "The Civil War does not travel long distances and the 360's are obviously less expensive than the 410, so we always end up racing for points. The 410's at Silver Dollar are on Friday's and the only other series that competes on Friday is Watsonville, and that's a long tow. The promoters set it up so the drivers competing for points don't miss races due to conflicting events, so we are always in multiple points chases."
Forsberg credited K&N Filters for allowing his team to run as much as they do with minimal engine wear.
"K&N has products that keep the motor clean and running efficient," Forsberg said. "We have a lot of money tied up in these sprint car motors and taking care of them is very important. K&N Oil and Air Filters keep our engines clean inside, which is great, because we can't afford to have issues because of dirt in our engines."

K&N Replacement Air Filter for Volkswagen Golf, Jetta, Polo, Skoda Octavia and Seat Leon
The Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon, Audi A3, Volkswagen Golf, Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Polo (to name just a few) are all international variants of the Volkswagen Group A platform. Although they share many components, each one is designed to fill a specific market niche in the countries where they're sold. The 2013 Volkswagen Polo GT, for example, is engineered to appeal to the environmentally conscious hot-hatch fan.

Volkswagen first introduced this Polo alternative at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show as a way to bridge the gap between the 105-hp Polo 1.2 FSI and the 180-hp Polo GTI. This new 140-hp mill is notable because it not just zippy, accelerating from 0-to-60 in a respectable 7.8 seconds, but it also respects fuel economy, reaching 50 mpg combined on the European test cycle.
The 1.4-liter turbocharged engine achieves these impressive figures because it features cylinder deactivation or ACT as Volkswagen calls it. Translated that means the engine is able to deactivate half of its four-cylinders under light throttle loads. Interestingly there's no appreciable change in vibration because when the engine switches from four to two-cylinders, all four cylinders keep moving, but only two are fed fuel.
Another common thread connecting these Volkswagen platform cars is that each can gain a performance boost after simply upgrading to a K&N 33-3004 high flow air filter. Engineered to increase both horsepower and torque and designed to simply drop into the existing factory air box, it only takes minutes to upgrade your existing filter with K&N's 33-3004 and to experience the added performance benefits for yourself.
This will be the last air filter you'll ever need to buy for your vehicle - you have K&N's renowned Million Mile Limited Warranty backing that claim. Depending on your driving environment, servicing intervals can go up to 50,000 miles before maintenance is necessary, and cleaning the filter is as effortless as following the four easy steps on a K&N Recharger Kit (part no. 99-5050).

Riding two classes Rothbauer also pulled off a 6th place finish in the S Open class despite a crash in Heat 1.
Last year Team Honda Austria began the Austrian Supermoto State Championship in Burgenland, Austria, and after 14 rounds of highly competitive and thoroughly entertaining racing they finished the season third overall. Heading into the 2013 Supermoto season the K&N sponsored team sports a new name – Team Auner Supermo.to Honda Austria. The new title may not roll trippingly off the tongue in English, but we’re told it practically sings in Austrian. Another change this year was that the International Supermoto State Championship kicked off in Greinbach, a municipality in the district of Hartberg in Styria, Austria.
In Heat 1 of the elite S1 class Rothbauer found himself in a battle with World Champion, Hannes Maier.
On deck to pull double-duty at Greinbach was Honda Austria/K&N Rider Andreas Rothbauer, who decided to compete in both professional classes S1 (up to 450ccm) and S Open (unlimited). Faultless weather made the start of the season ideally enjoyable for both riders and fans.
“The kickoff meetings are always very special,” Rothbauer said. “We are testing a lot during the pre-season, but only now do we get to see if we are really competitive . . . and we sure are.”
The Supermoto series S1 is the elite class and the one that Rothbauer focuses on each year. In qualifying the K&N rider continuously improved his speed with every lap during the sessions, which lead to his near perfect start in Heat 1. After the first lap Rothbauer was already in second and clearly finding his rhythm, however a late race pass by World Champion, Hannes Maier, pushed Rothbauer into third.
In Heat 2 Rothbauer again got off to a great start and after a race long battle with the top five finishers, the K&N Supermoto rider crossed the finish line in fourth. After the event Rothbauer remarked “The S1 Class is still the elite class and not only in Austria. We had really good races and fights. I had a good rhythm and I am very glad to finish on the overall podium this weekend.”
Honda Austria/K&N Rider Andreas Rothbauer opened his Supermoto season with solid third place in the elite S1 class at Greinbach.
In Heat 1 of the S Open class Rothbauer continued his roll of good starts, but after the first lap he pushed just a tad too hard and he paid for it with a spectacular crash. By the time he gathered himself the entire field had passed him, leaving him over a half a lap down. The tenacious rider immediately started a new attack on the field and by the checkered flag he managed to regain the 13th position.
Understandably Rothbauer was highly motivated and just a bit angry with himself heading into Heat 2, driving him to once more get off to a near perfect start. After only a couple of laps he once again closes in on the second position, and then moves in front, where he begins opening up a gap between the rest of the field. However, after several more laps another K&N rider, Tom Neuburger closes up the gap. Rothbauer and Neuburger continue battling for every corner, getting the fans up out of their seats. In the end Rothbauer settles for a very impressive second place at the checkered and a 6th overall in the S Open class.
“The first heat was just terrible,” commented Rothbauer. “Riding two free practice sessions, two qualifying rounds and four final heats of 20 minutes each on one race day was very, very tough. And a crash costs extra energy that I basically didn’t have. Anyway, I think I made up for that in the second final heat, and it was an awesome fight with Tom Neubuger.”
“Great thanks goes out to K&N and all my Sponsors. This all would not be possible without all of you. Last but not least a big cheer goes out to my team and my fans that have made this weekend again a real great event. Now we will keep on testing and improving to be ready for the second round of the International Austrian State Championship at the end of June!”

The Deaknbuilt Ranger was thoroughly tested at the SNORE opening event in Primm.
“Racing since 1969” is a proud fact boldly printed front and center on the SNORE website (coincidentally a stat shared with K&N). The Southern Nevada Off-Road Enthusiasts is a tight-knit family of off-road desert racers helping to promote desert racing in and around the Las Vegas, Nevada area, and it’s a series that Chuck Deakins and his Deaknbuilt/K&N Filters team are crazy passionate about.
Jeremy Deakins says the team has fixed the truck’s rear-end issues that plagued them last season.
The 2013 series got underway at the BeeHive Sports Bar Battle at Primm, in Nevada. If there were any lingering doubts about off-road racing growing in record numbers, this race put that to rest. Nearly 200 entries for the weekend’s event proved once again how successful this series continues to be. There were also new classes added to the roster this year which further helped bring out an even larger crowd than last year.
The 2011 event included two nights of hard racing over an 8.6 mile layout that started and finished behind Buffalo Bill's hotel casino just east of I-15 in Primm, Nevada. Jeremy Deakins, driver of the K&N sponsored, Lucas Oil/Deaknbuilt Ranger, finished second overall.
“This year was the largest race by far, with a total of 63 trucks entered in our class,” reported Deakins. After four, 12.7mile laps, the course was littered with Competition 1400 series trucks that were unable to complete the battle. The Deaknbuilt Ranger and Jeremy Deakins were among those that tested their trucks to the limit, yet would ultimately need to surrender and write-off the race as a real-time shakedown for the new setup.
The Deaknbuilt crew is looking forward to the night race back in Primm on June 8th.
“We always take away learning experiences for every race,” Deakins said. “Being prepared each race and teamwork are things we will take away and continue to do in the 2013 season to ensure our success.”
The 2012 off-road season was a tough one for the Deaknbuilt crew, filled with too many lows and not enough highs. But that’s racing, and precisely why you keep coming out, to learn from your experience, and to lock down more memories and good times.
“Tough season or not, our downtime is very minimal. We have a dedicated team to inspect and improve upon the truck continually, so we can go out and race every race the best we can,” Deakins said in response to how fast the team returned to the shop to start working on the new season.
“We came into the 2013 season with not too many changes to the truck. We had some troubles last season with the rear-end setup we were running, so we are in the process of switching over to a full floater rear-end to help prevent some of those troubles we had.”
The Deaknbuilt LLC Racing team went onto race the HDRA Ridgecrest race after Primm, and next on their schedule is the June 8th Snore night race back in Primm, Nevada.
“Overall we would like to thank K&N and all of our sponsors, friends and family who help us do what we love to do which is go out there and race. Without them none of the season would be possible.”

The saying bigger is better is thrown around a lot these days, but the men and women who haul goods from coast to coast live that saying every day. With nearly 11 billion tons of freight amounting to approximately $16 trillion moving across the US annually, the trucking industry is the backbone of the US economy. Major truck manufacturers such as Freightliner and Peterbilt supply the building blocks in the form of durable and reliable trucks that create the foundation of the US infrastructure. Owners and operators are constantly looking for ways to improve their monetary returns on shipments any way possible. With fuel prices constantly increasing and regulations cutting into profits, finding ways to make a profit are becoming scarce.
K&N Heavy Duty Diesel Truck Air Filter
For some Kenworth Truck, Peterbilt truck and Motor Coach Industries Bus owners, K&N offers a washable and reusable heavy duty air filter, part number 38-2038R. Instead of buying disposable air filters over and over this filter can be cleaned and reused. Made of a durable, non-woven synthetic material, this reverse (inside-out flow) air filter is backed by K&N's 3 year or 300,000 Mile Limited Warranty. The oil free air fiter is easy to maintain. The owner can utilize compressed air and a pressure washer as part of the maintenance regiment. The air filter's design protects the costly motors from dirt and other hamrful debris allowing for worry free operation.
The 38-2038R diesel air filter is a great money saving addition for owners and operators to add to their arsenal of profit generating modifications.
The 38-2038R air filter fits some trucks and heavy duty equipement with Caterpillar and Cummins engines. This filter also fits Kenworth C500 trucks with Cummins ISX engines, Kenworth T800 trucks with Caterpillar 3401 engines or Cummins L-10 engines, Motor Coach Industries buses with 200 Series Detroit Diesel engines, MC-8 Detroit Diesel 8V-71 engines, or MC-9 & 96A3 Detroit Diesel engines, Freightliner trucks with Cummins M11 Turbo Diesel engines and many other heavy duty diesel applications. The best way to determine which heavy duty air filter you need is to cross reference the air filter that was in the vehicle with the correct K&N air filter. Use K&N's cross reference air filter search to do this with ease.
The 38-2038R will replace the following manufacturers' part numbers:
