An internal combustion engine makes power by detonating gasoline inside the cylinders. This explosion forces the piston down, turning the crankshaft, and ultimately the wheels. In order to make the fuel burn, air has to be injected into the cylinders. This catalyst is piped to the throttle body through the stock air intake system, which collects it from outside the vehicle. The problem is, the factory intake on your Jeep 2.0L and 2.4L engines is very narrow and full of tight bends. When the outside air makes it past the thick paper air filter, it has to squeeze through the tiny intake tube and around those tight turns, causing it to slow down and become turbulent. By the time it reaches the cylinders, this hot, swirling air won't be potent enough to fully burn all of the fuel. To increase the horsepower in your little Jeep Patroit and Jeep Compass, you need to replace that warm air with oxygen-rich cold air. The additional oxygen molecules will create a more powerful explosion, which enables the engine to extract more energy/horsepower, from the same amount of fuel.

Since you already own a Challenger SRT8, 300C SRT8, or Charger SRT8, this probably isn't new information. But it bears repeating. The 6.4L Hemi V8 makes power by burning a mixture of air and gasoline inside the cylinders. The valves are positioned at the sides of the hemispherical head, so the air will swirl around as it enters the combustion chamber, allowing it to mix with the gas more completely. The concave head and domed pistons then work together to pressurize the perfectly blended fuel/air mixture, and hold in heat during detonation. That way, more of the fuel gets burned and more energy and horsepower released.

To increase the horsepower and torque in a 392 Hemi, all you have to do is add lots of cold air. If you were paying attention in middle school, then you'll probably remember that cold air contains more oxygen molecules than warm air. This will create a stronger explosion when the gasoline detonates, and the heat-holding function of the Hemi heads allow even more power to be extracted from the same amount of fuel.

The K&N 57-1565 FIPK performance intake system is designed to increase horsepower and torque, by providing your 392ci Hemi with a steady supply of cold air. To do this, the restrictive factory air box is replaced by an oversized K&N performance air filter, which is protected from hot engine bay air by a special heat shield that seals against the underside of the hood. The K&N air filter is made from an oil-treated cotton gauze material that can stop dirt particles that are the diameter of a human hair. The red oil then soaks into the dirt, causing it to actually catch and hold other dirt even when the filter gets dirty (depending on road conditions, it can go up to 100,000 miles before it needs to be cleaned).

Once the cold air coming up from below the motor gets cleaned, it's sent to the engine by a large-diameter K&N intake tube, which has been roto-molded to provide an unobstructed airflow path. 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback Build by Brent Kimball Brings Back the King of Cool

Years ago, a movie car chase was made with real stunt drivers, driving real cars, on real roads. There wasn't any computerized CGI to make a car go flying through a building, over a helicopter, then land on some interstate on-ramp with barely a scratch. The car chase was real. You could hear the engine rev, the tires squeal, and feel the fear. One of the most iconic car chase scenes was in the movie Bullitt, where Steve McQueen piloted a 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback on a high-flying adventure through the streets of San Francisco. The "King of Cool" actually did some of the stunt driving himself, then the insurance people stepped in and stuntman Bud Ekins had to finish out the chase. This gritty, visceral scene literally helped to define movie car chase scenes, and a 16-year-old named Brent Kimball swore he'd own a Mustang like that someday.

The custom California license tag '67 FSBK' was actually available, so Brent snagged them before anyone else could.

After spending half a lifetime in the construction business, Kimball's company Signature Building Services had managed to remain steady, despite the roller coaster economy. This afforded him the ability to finally indulge his childhood dream of owning a 1967 Mustang GT Fastback. All he had to do now was find the right car, then convince his wife to let him buy it. The search proved to be the easy part, as one of his contractors called him out of the blue, offering to sell his 1967 Mustang GT Fastback. Brent had known the guy for 20 years, and had tried to buy it on numerous occasions. It had a 320-hp Ford Racing fuel injected 331ci V8 from a 1993 Mustang GT, a 5-speed manual gearbox, the battery had been relocated to the trunk, and a Weld Wheels front disc brake kit had been installed. There was no rust, no dents, and the guy had actually purchased it from the original owner. For a blank canvas, you couldn't do much better. So to avoid a nasty divorce, Kimball sold his pinball machine collection, his Harley, and some Apple stock to buy the car. His wife reluctantly approved, and Brent's lifelong dream suddenly came true.

After acquiring his prize, Kimball discovered the engine was starving for air, so he installed a polished intake from a Ford GT40 (this was particularly ironic, because the producers of Bullitt had dubbed over the engine sound of McQueen's Mustang with the exhaust note from a GT40). To feed that new intake lots of oxygen-rich air, Kimball used the K&N universal filter search tool to find the K&N RC-9360 universal air filter. "I started using K&N air filters on my motorcycles as a kid and the performance is fantastic. All my vehicles run K&N air filters now, so I went right to them for the Mustang". The additional air immediately smoothed the engine and provided a lot more tire-smoking power.

With the engine sorted, Mr. Kimball got a Hagerty history report and discovered his GT was delivered to the original buyer in San Jose Texas, with a 289ci motor, a 3-speed manual, no A/C, and a Midnight Mist Blue paint job with white racing stripes. He decided to go back to the original livery, so his body man stripped the car down to bare metal, smoothed out every imperfection, then laid down several coats of the factory color. The interior was also completely redone with new glass, rubber, and the correct blue vinyl upholstery.

To complete the look, Kimball added a staggered set of American Racing wheels with 225/60R15 BFGoodrich tires up front, and super-wide 295/50R15 BFG's in the rear. The look of the completed car was incredible, and his wife "actually loves it now". They take the car cruising on the beach. It's won 1st place at several car shows. And one time, a guy in a brand new Lamborghini Aventador even stopped to compliment them. So we at K&N salute you Brent Kimball, because you are definitely the new King of Cool.

If you own an off-road vehicle, then you are aware of the Baja 1000. For those of you who are not, it is an off-road race through the desert on the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. First ran in Tijuana, Mexico on October 31, 1967, it calls for drivers of off-road motorcycles, all-terrain, and four-wheel drive vehicles, buggies, and more to race in a 600 to 850-mile loop starting and finishing in Ensenada or running “Point to Point” for 900 miles from Ensenada to La Paz, Mexico.

The National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) organized the event from 1967 to 1972 and it became extremely popular after ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” assigned Jim McKay to cover the 1968 event live.

The event became a phenomenon that attracted famous racers like Parnelli Jones and Mickey Thompson and movie actors including James Garner, Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and more to compete. Due to the oil crisis in 1973 and concerned with the cost of gasoline, racers stopped competing and NORRA dropped the race despite promises from the federal government of Mexico that it would keep fuel prices stable.

In response to the shutdown, Baja California governor Milton Castellanos assigned a non-profit Mexican organization called the “Baja Sports Committee” (BSC) to organize the event and it was renamed the “Baja Mil” (Baja 1000). The BSC organized a race from Ensenada to La Paz, but it proved too much to handle and it gave up the race. The Mexican government then requested that the Southern California Off-Road Enterprises (SCORE) take on the responsibility of organizing the race and the group still has control of it today.

In an effort to create great video moments and to provide more entertainment for spectators who lived near the course, other spectators have been reported to have created booby traps, blocking river flow, or burying and hiding obstacles and racers are cautioned to beware of large crowds that collect in remote sections of the course. Racers have been injured and vehicles damaged as a result of some of these so-called booby traps. However, competitors have adapted. Many of them pre-run the course before the race to determine where the “booby traps” are so that they have an advantage over the competition. Still, racers communicate with each other using on-board radios to warn others of the existence and location of the obstacles.

The conditions during the race are considered very harsh due to vehicles kicking up excessive amounts of sand into the air. The sand can cause problems to engines and high-performance air filters are required to protect engines and assure that competitors stay in the race.

You may not be aware of it, but the Cadillac Motor Division of General Motors, manufacturer of the Cadillac CTS-V, was actually an independent automobile manufacturer before General Motors acquired it in 1909. It actually was formed out of the remains of the Henry Ford Company after a dispute Ford had with investors in 1902. By 1909, Cadillac was recognized as one of America’s primary luxury car manufacturers. It was the first to develop the concept of interchangeable parts, which helped to establish the modern mass production of automobiles. The achievement resulted in Cadillac winning the Royal Club of England’s Dewar Trophy. It won the Dewar Trophy again in 1912 for being the first to incorporate electric starting and lighting into a production automobile. The vehicle was exhibited at the New York Auto Show in January 1903, which led to more than 2,000 orders.

At the dawn of the 21st Century, Cadillac introduced a new design philosophy it calls “Art and Science.” The design introduced sharper form and crisper edges to the cars, which led to the CTS, the XLR roadster, the BLS, and the DTS. The models include rear- and all-wheel drive sedans, roadsters, and SUVs. The BLS and DTS were front-wheel drive models that are no longer in production. Cadillac introduced the CTS-V to compete directly with BMW’s M5. An automatic version of the CTS-V set a record speed for production sedans when it lapped a German test track in 7:59.32.
